re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

It is but if it came here it would be another 'Drowsy' or 'Spring'!
UK audiences wont take to it.
I'd like to see the Menier take t maybe.
Now where is The Bridewell when we need it?

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

It would have to be a limited run for a few months at the National or something

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

LOL, I was just coming back to edit my post to get it back on topic. Sorry about the threadjack!

Next To Normal seems to be getting some very good reviews, I could definitely imagine it sneaking a couple of Tonys other than for Alice Ripley. If it does that can only help it's 'transfer value'.

It would be great to see 9 to 5 make it over here too. I was talking to Allison Janney at the stage door last Monday and she said she'd love to do a show in London. Even if she doesn't get to bring 9 to 5 over, hopefully some astute producer somewhere will offer her a lead role in the West End in the next couple of years.

(I'm threadjacking again aren't I?) re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

Not that big at all

The cast is 6 or 7 and the set is a 3 tiered set which is like a house but more like scaffolding

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

Yep, a cast of just six and a very cleverly constructed 3 tier scaffold-style set.

It wouldn't necessarily be huge but if Alice Ripley came over it should have very good word of mouth and at least one Tony (much as I adored Allison Janney in 9 to 5, I can't see her beating Ripley to the award).

And please, call me Tigg - I didn't mean to create a username in caps-lock! :)

Yea that could fit in anywhere in town. The Booth is pretty small house.

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

I have a feeling 9 to 5 is gonna get very mixed reviews. Word of my mouth in NY is not great and its already been snubbed by one awards

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

I'm sure 9 to 5 will get mixed reviews, doesn't mean it won't do well as one of the few feelgood musicals currently on Broadway. Especially as its got built-in big name recognition in Dolly Parton and Allison Janney which will help bring in tourists, as well as regular Broadway performers in Block, Hilty and Kudisch who will appeal to theatre-goers.

I wouldn't set much store by the Outer Circle Critics Awards anyway - it almost seems like they've pulled some of the categories out of a hat.

Anyway, Next To Normal: still great!

I really think they do pull them out of a hat lol

Oh yeah i 100 percent agree this will have a long run (and deservedly so), i think it will be a bit like Wicked, very mixed reviews but a huge fan base.

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

It ain't gonna fit in the Menier though!..

unless the rumours of them having a West End house ( a la the Donmar) is true.

It would seem to me ( from a no conection with the business perspective ) to be more of a National, Caroline or Change/August transfer,..at least if they're keeping the same production.

And then who do the Americans get?..La cage?

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

The Menier are in talks with the owners (ATC) to make the Garrick their semipermanent home not the Donmar.

'N2N' looks like it may be more at home in a smaller house like the Criterion or the Comedy.

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

..so then do they use it for new productions ( as the Donmar has begun to do ), or transfers only..
#44

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

I was told both.
They would do things like 'Sunday', 'They're Playing Our Song', 'Little Shop' etc at the Garrick and keep the newer, more experimental work over in the Menier.
A great idea that many other companies have craved for in years past and now, sadly, the whole Menier venture has gone quiet.
It would be hard for ATC to give up such a landmark house as the Garrick to another company.
The Donmar at the Wyndams is purely a limited 'invited by Cameron' season, just as he 'invites' the RSC to the Novello every year.
He has already offered the Wyndams to the Donmar for another season next year.
