Next to Normal plans UK transfer

So I went to Next to Normal tonight (the last show I'll see on Broadway for a while) and totally loved it.

At stage door I spoke to Alice Ripley about being in NYC on holiday from Australia via the UK, and she said that there were very promising initial planning to bring the show to London (with her still playing Diana) after the show runs a year or so at the Booth. I was shocked that they were already considering a transfer, but she reassured me she was not kidding.

So what do you all think? Will London welcome what will hopefully become a multiple-Tony-Award-winner in a few months?

I don't really give a toss about the rest of the UK (which will probably avoid this show like the plague; it's never going to pick up any tourist business, and it's depressing as hell) but hell yes, I will be there.

I hope everyone's bought or planning to buy the recording - it was only £7.99 on iTunes last week. I'm sure it's even better live.

I've booked to see N2N in New York on May 14 - and it's the show I'm most looking forward to seeing of the 6 things I've booked to see on my trip. If it's as good as I'm expecting it to be, I would certainly love to see it again in London. Hell, even if it's not as good as I'm expecting and it has Alice Ripley, I would go and see it again in London! She is amazing. I love every recording I have of her and when I saw her in The Baker's Wife at Papermill a few years ago, she totally blew me away. It was worth flying 5,000 miles just to hear her sing Meadowlark! So, I'd certainly make the relatively short trip to London to see her.

We were there last night as well!
Ripley was superb, as were the rest of the cast, the production...the whole deal.
Very moving and from the heart.

PS We were eating in Juniors (love the cheesecake)after the show and could see from where we were sitting Alice Ripley was chatting for ages. I guess bfo2 was in there somewhere!

It'd be fantastic at the Menier I think, and might be able to manage a successful limited run there, not sure it'd last at all in a West End house.

If I was you, I'd hate me too. Alice was such a darling at stage door :) I told her that you missed her at stage door when you went, and she was genuinely apologetic.

Tap, I was the last person she signed for ... in the hot pink jumper :) oh and yes the Juniors cheesecake is delicious!

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

I got to see this show yesterday afternoon before my late-night flight home and I'm so glad I had the opportunity. I can see why there is so much Tony buzz surrounding Alice Ripley - she was absoloutely mesmerising - and the rest of the cast weren't too far behind either.

Would see this again in London in a heartbeat - a gorgeous score and a riveting production.

American Airlines from JFK @ 11.30pm (last night's actually left at 12.30am). I've often taken this flight on my return from NYC - gives me the luxury of another matinee!

American Airlines suck! lol I flew with them a lot years ago and thought they were great but they have gone downhill in a big way since 9/11 hit the airline industry. The last time I flew with them the service was appalling and I would have to have a VERY cheap deal to persuade me to fly with them again.

The last few times I've flown with either Virgin or BA (both with excellent service), both of whom have flights late enough for me to catch a matinee show before flying out. (around 9.30. - 10.00. pm)

I do BA mostly as they are so frequent. Virgin always upgrade me so I go them a lot too.

Funny enough I disagree, I think American are great never had a bad flight, although BA are my favourite. I hate Virgin with a passion, avoid them like the plague.

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

I'm a fan of VA myself ... but that's probably because I just landed on their flight back from Chicago to London. I was meant to arrive yesterday morning, but the JFK-LHR flight was massively overbooked. To stay behind an extra day, they offered me an upgrade to premium economy as well as a voucher for a round trip flight to any of their destinations (except Australia...just my luck). At least I have my next flight back to NYC in summer paid for :)

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

Funnily enough my AA flight was also overbooked and I seriously considered volunteering to be bumped - they were offering a $600 flight voucher and a night in an airport hotel. Would have meant getting back from Heathrow late at night though, so I prevaricated and others took them up on it.

I'd prefer to fly Virgin or BA but find American has the best deals and flight times allow me to squeeze every last minute out of my NYC trips, so I'll probably stick with them. Wish they'd upgrade their in-flight entertainment though - tis very repetitive and not very current.

I probably won't be going back till Nov/Dec though - can't stick the stickiness of New York in the summer!

re: Next to Normal plans UK transfer

It's so strange how different people seem to have different experiences with different airlines. I'm glad you've always had great times with AA, Princeton. But - though 10 years or more ago they were my fav airline - the last time I flew with them it was the worst service I've ever experienced on a flight. The food was not even close to edible and it was a major ordeal to get the crew to do anything and they were really rude. On Virgin, on the other hand, my experience is they can;t do enough for you and are always really courteous and friendly.

And sorry, songanddanceman, that we seem to have "hijacked" the thread by turning it into flight news lol.
