I am not surprised.
"The toe-tapping Gershwin tuner Nice Work If You Can Get It, starring two-time Tony winner Matthew Broderick and Tony nominee Jessie Mueller, will play its final performance on June 15 at Broadway's Imperial Theatre. Directed by Kathleen Marshall and featuring a book by Joe DePietro and score of classic Gershwin songs, Nice Work opened on April 24, 2012. At the time of closing, the production will have played 27 previews and 478 regular performances."

I posted this in another thread, but it seems like this is the thread that everyone will be using. It made sense to close on Matthew Broderick's final performance if they could not get a big name to replace him.

I've known about this for a bit now but I was praying that they'd cement a great replacement for Broderick and save it. Oh well. A lovely little show that certainly brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. I'll definitely be making a return visit before June 15th.

Posted: 4/24/13 at 6:07pmNot surprised at all. This vehicle was tailored to Broderick and it worked very well, imo. I think there are many people involved in this production that are very grateful to Matthew for his committment to this project and his decision to extend the life of this production until June 15. I thoroughly enjoyed this production and the wonderful talent on stage at the Imperial every night.

I'd say that is a very possible plan. It just depends if the producers would switch to a Shubert house as opposed to booking a Nederlander one. It most certainly won't be going back into the Lunt-Fotanne, so who knows? Didn't it originally supposedly have the St. James with Jujamcyn?
