I think it might have been a charity event of some sort.

It's like writing "Norma Shearer for the win!" in a Joan Crawford biography.

It was a very large charity event, which garnered HUGE ratings. I believe they did it several years in a row, with different featured stars.

Never again will they be able to parade that many Broadway stars in front of a general television audience with the audience having any clue who they are.

Watching that gave me chills! Night of 100 Stars was a HUGE event. One the papering services gave away tickets to the dress rehearsal, which I attended, but I don't think it was the first year. They held several Night of 100 Stars for a few years, although it really became Night of Hundreds of Stars. I remember Donna McKechnie and Ann Reinking appearing in one of them.
