"Nine to Five" Musical in works...Parton to write score

"'The secretaries who were "just a step on the boss man's ladder' in the 1980 film comedy "Nine to Five" will sing in a stage musical version of the story, with a new score by Dolly Parton.

Patricia Resnick, who had story and co-screenwriter credit on the hit picture, told Playbill.com that she is writing the libretto of the Broadway-aimed Nine to Five musical, with music and lyrics by Parton (who co-starred in the movie), to be produced by Robert Greenblatt, president of entertainment at Showtime Networks, Inc.

A Broadway target of fall 2006 or early 2007 is being eyed, and Broadway's hit-making director Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Wicked) has been in discussions to stage the project, Resnick said.

Nine to Five is still in the development stages, with no official announcements made public by the producer."

First "The First Wives Club" and now this. Looks like next season will be all about the feminism!

I love "The First Wives Club" as well as "Nine to Five". This should be an exciting next few seasons.

Dolly Parton is also a favorite of mine. So exciting!!

"I don't really get the ending,all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang,and later she kissed him on the toilet,after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung,and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen,and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady?Please help me,thank u very much!" Dolly was simply wonderful in the movie. Her first role on film I think.

I am so glad I'm not the only one excited about an original Dolly Parton score (with title song interpolated, I assume) on Broadway...gay boys everywhere are having to change their underwear.

9 to 5 was a birthday gift (on DVD) from a little hottie and I also have the title song on my morning commute playlist on Tobey (my ipod).

What a WONDERFUL GIFT! Honestly...you are so lucky to have such a thoughtful person in your life!!!

OH...and has anyone else heard the Nine to Five remix? They take the song in mix in pretty much every classic line from the movie? It goes on FOREVER and is sheer genius!
