Okay, everyone. This is important and nobody was reading it with the subject before. But if these companies stop releasing cast recordings, Chenoweth and Menzel's shows will not be preserved in the future. Think of your life without your WICKED CD. Read below and please sign -

KEEPING BROADWAY ON THE RECORD
www.stagespace.com
For decades, almost every Broadway musical has left behind a permanent
legacy - the Original Cast Recording.
For many theater lovers, cast recordings have been the bridge to
Broadway, giving the listener a glimpse of a first class production,
no matter what the actual distance to New York. And although shows
open and close, the cast recordings have remained, documenting the
evolving history of musical theater and inspiring new generations of
theater lovers across the world.
But Original Cast Recordings are on the verge of extinction. More and
more record executives consider cast recordings a waste of time and
money, and have made it clear that the days of recording Broadway
shows are numbered. Robert Hurwitz, president of Nonesuch Records,
told a journalist in March 2004 that he will now be recording only two
musical theater composers - Stephen Sondheim and Adam Guettel.

We cannot let the cast album die. This petition is being sent to the
chief executives of Sony, RCA Victor, Nonesuch, Atlantic and Hollywood
Records, demanding that Broadway cast albums be allowed to survive,
for the sake of the industry itself.
Stand up for Broadway Cast Recordings - sign your name to the petition
and help save the future of musical theater.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 5:05pmAre you talking about the SOUNDTRACKS to the shows? lol I havn''t noticed fewer being produced. Most all seem to have one as usual. Updated On: 8/17/04 at 05:05 PM

Posted: 8/17/04 at 5:07pmRight now it seems that way, but I think the point of it was that they aren't going to be making as many in the future. That's what's being fought for.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 5:09pmI don't think I've ever heard of nonesuch records. Is that because they record Sondheim and I don't like Sondheim? Updated On: 8/17/04 at 05:09 PM

Posted: 8/17/04 at 5:11pmWell, despite being stupid at least Hurwitz has good taste in one area.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

"Are you talking about the SOUNDTRACKS to the shows?"
Wow. I've seen people use this before, but I have NEVER seen anyone try to use the word "soundtrack" in an attempt to CLARIFY someone else's post. And it was capitalized for emphasis, too.
Perhaps the most shocking element of this, is that the post has been up for an hour and a half, and it appears that I am the first one to notice.
BBE, for your future reference, "soundtrack" is a word used only in reference to the music from movies and television shows, and it does not apply to theatrical recordings.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 6:30pmi was going to post something about the word "soundtrack" being used to describe a cast album but i was too busy listening to the soundtrack of WICKED.

Posted: 8/17/04 at 6:40pmFlower, I wasn't clarifying anything. I was just being a smart alleck because I know a lot of people are uptight about calling it what everyone else calls it. Sorry you wasted your time writing that post. lol
