Could anyone provide some insight as to the process non-Equity actors typically go through at Equity casting calls?

Thanks!

You go early, put your name on a list, and you're either told to wait and they'll squeeze you in or to come back at a later time. When you come back, they either tell you that there are too many Equity actors there, so they won't have time to see you, or you have to wait until every equity actor had been seen, and then they'll see the non-Equity actors in the order on the list.

Thank you =). I know Wicked doesn't see non-eq actors, but if it's not specified in the notice it's all clear, correct?

Yep, just realize there's a chance you won't be seen.

If you're non-Equity but an Equity Membership Candidate (EMC), you will get seen before non-Equity people. So if you're just plain non-Equity, you will be seen when there are no Equity or EMC's waiting to audition.

You're treated badly, expected to sit on horribly uncomfortable benches (some of which are broken), and are expected to wait, wait, and wait...until all of the card holding actors are seen. At that point, they may or may not see you.

Good luck, enjoy, have fun.

At equity calls at the AEA building - yes that's true, yeah. But I have waited on the comfy couches at Telsey AND been seen at EPAs (I'm non eq).

It depends on what the show is, the theatre company holding them, where the auditions are held, the turnout of auditioners and the needs of the casting team.

A non eq actor should attend EPAs and ECCs whenever possible.
