Norbert & Blue Diamonds

I got way to many PMs to send this individually.
Sorry the scan came out so crappy.
I have to run so I didn't have time to play with it. It looks better in the real picture.
If you have the PBS special "Broadway and the American Musical" during the featurette on Wicked, they show him with the diamonds.
Enjoy for now!

Posted: 6/20/05 at 11:54amum...he didn't have them on Broadway, did he? If so, I totally missed that... (though I do know it's from the book, before anyone brings that up!)

I didn't realize how risqué that picture really is.
I wonder if I should edit that image out.
All I did was place a link...and the image automatically populated in the message field.

Posted: 6/20/05 at 12:27pmI wish the picture showed the diamonds better, but honestly? I like them. I realize they looked like bruises and **** after the third row, but they give Fiyero more character, in my opinion. Plus when I found out they did try the blue diamonds originally in San Fran, I'd been dying to see what Norbert looked like with them.

Sorry I don't know, but...
What is the story behind the "blue diamonds"?

In the novel, Fiyero is covered with blue diamonds - I think I remember it being a tatoo from his place of origin. But it's been a while since I read the book so I could be wrong...
I'm glad to know they tried the diamonds too, but I understand why they had to go away. Not quite as easily seen as straight green makeup.

Yeah. The diamonds were tattoos that Fiyero had because he was a Prince of the Vinkus. They were supposed to distinguish him from the commoners of his people, but when he got to Shiz almost everybody teased/mocked/commented in some way regarding his diamonds.. except Elphaba. Because she knew how he felt.
That's why I really liked the idea of the diamonds for the musical, too. They make Fiyero and Elphaba have something in common.
I may have expanded a little on the meaning of the diamonds but there you have it in a nutshell.

I don't have my book handy to refer to....but didn't he actually have blue skin with diamonds on it? not blue diamonds? I remember thinking "how are they going to do that on stage?".
Although I loved the visual I got from the book, I really don't think it added much to the onstage character. And if that's the case, might as well go without...

It just looks like some vehicle ran his face over, like that bike he rode in on, or even Galinda's Bubble...

Well, he's a Winkie.. I pictured him extremely dark with the blue diamonds all over his body.
And that's why the connection between Elphaba and Fiyero, because they were both different.
It just seems that Fiyero is like everyone else without his diamonds.

In the book, Fiyero was dark skinned, long haired, and with the blue diamonds trailing down from his face onto his chest and who knows where else.
Yeah... I've read the book way too many times.
It just seems that Fiyero is like everyone else without his diamonds.
Yes, exactly.

re: Norbert & Blue Diamonds#22
Posted: 6/20/05 at 1:01pmI don't recall Fiyero ever getting attacked by a bird in the book.. enchanted antlers, yes. But a bird? Maybe it's been too long since I've read the book. Heh.

Oh, yeah, it was the antlers... I apologize. Antlers, birds, same thing, right? lol...
And does anyone know the name of that magazine? I want to subscribe.

No, it's cool. LOL I was just sitting here like "bird? what bird?" to myself.
But no, that part isn't in the musical.
