*I'm going to experiment with the title of this thread to see whom it attracts*

I listened to Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years" quite a few times, and then saw the show with Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott. "Nobody Needs to Know" was a replay favorite for me, but I had imagined it sung cabaret style -- with Norbert wearing whatever outfit he had been wearing at the beginning of the show...

WELL! How pleasantly surprised I was to see him singing the song in nothing but his boxers. He has the sexiest legs and the cutest stomach -- no washboard abs, just an adorable, slightly hairy stomach. I actually gasped at the shock of seeing this hot young thing singing a sad but beautiful song with nothing but his boxers on...

Sherie is gorgeous too -- a definite reminder of what female beauty used to be in the days before models were expected to vomit even a veggie dinner. (which is not to say that very thin women aren't beautiful; just that having curves is wonderful too)

Have any of you had the experience of listening to a cast recording, and then being pleasantly surprised that a song isn't performed in the way you expected it to be? I'd love to hear about that experience. Updated On: 10/2/04 at 03:21 AM

I love TL5Y too, but I'd rephrase this before someone decides to flame you for it. It's not a "soundtrack"..it's a "recording". The faithful are kinda testy about that around here. re: Listening to the soundtrack before seeing the show...pleasant surprises...

I've altered the title to satisfy anybody childish enough to slam me for calling it a "soundtrack." (Interesting note: Many Borders identify Broadway musical recordings as "soundtracks")

hey..don't shoot the messenger. I was just trying to save you a little bit of hassle. change it back if you want, but don't hold me responsible for any slack you might take.

this is what I get for being helpful?

I didn't take that as a slam... but whatever...

Kinda the opposite impression from me, I expected a big elaborate dance sequence (set goes away, and the two dance alone onstage) between Leo and Ulla during 'That Face', but it didnt happen lol. That one comes to mind, but I can't think of any others...

Norbert has really veiny arms and such a prominent bone structure that I was expecting to see some muscles and rib cage when he first appeared in the bed shirtless (only to remove the covers and step out of it shortly thereafter). But, he has a fairly hairy chest and his stomach is... soft, with a pretty deep navel. I'm in love. Updated On: 10/2/04 at 04:20 PM

He is cuddly. And that Mickey Mouse face? If I were sharing a bed with him, I'd never sleep on my own side.

I'm eagerly awaiting Sweet Smell of Success too, though I don't know that the music will be my flavor.

omg norbert is so hot. (don't like his receding hairline though)
I have a question:
(no one ever tells me)
How do you pronounce his last name?

LOL! I think it's so funny how hard it is to find out for sure. No one seems to be certain! re: Listening to the cast recording before seeing the show Good thing, though, that generally if you say "Norbert" people will know who you're referring to. re: Listening to the cast recording before seeing the show

Oh I know. I know it's pronounced they way I wrote, I just don't want to give a definitive answer for fear of upsetting some higher entity!

Apparently Idina said it in her Tony acceptance speech. She'd know!! She pronounces it that way, I think.

Check the Tony website (www.tonys.org). There *used* to be a clip of Idina's speech, but I don't know what part it was, nor do I know if it's still there.

Someone standing near me once asked Norbert about his last name at the stage door, and in Norbert's own words, "My name is Butz baby - like your @ss!" [slapped his butt]... then he looked frantically around to see if there were any kids around and commented he needed to watch his language. Cute.

So yes, it's pronounced /butts/

That is so cute! This guy is hysterical. I read an interview he did with Playbill.com a long time ago, and in it he told a really embarrassing story. I was laughing so hard I almost peed in my pants. I wonder if that article still exists.
On another note, does anyone know if he still smokes? I'm trying to do a mental poll in my head, and it's really astonishing as to how many actors/singers do.

I absolutely adore this man, he is amazing. I play the cast recording of L5Y pretty much everyday, and i too have been lucky enough to see sherie and him perform in it (not live though). The show is incredible, it has me crying one minute and laughing the next. Nobody needs to know is hauntingly beautiful, Norbert just touches my heart. Oh and i do enjoy watching him in his boxers, he is so cuddly!

Chrys, which actors do you know of that smoke? I'm curious. You'd think they'd try to take care of those hundered-dollar a pop voices.
