If Sutton wins this year. Someone please point a gun to my head. She is over hyped, I'm sorry.

Have you seen her in LITTLE WOMEN? I have not, so I can't comment. However, I did find her performance in MILLIE to be enjoyable, but terribly overrated. I think people were so impressed with the fact that she was a leading lady newcomer and unknown that they had to give her the award. Plus, when you're a big stand out like that in such a terrible show (like MILLIE was, and like LITTLE WOMEN is from what I hear,) it only makes you look better.

Personally, I wish JLT won the Tony in 2002 for Urinetown.
and I don't think they will give Sutton another Tony after 2 years.

Sutton's performance in MILLIE soared leagues above that of JLT in URINETOWN, by far.
And I think they would give her another Tony so soon - Audra McDonald?

I don't think Sutton will get the award again for Little Women. Had the show been a critical success perhaps, but it will go to someone else. Not sure who, but I'd bet the farm that Sutton will not win.

This year isn't very strong for leading ladies - the complete opposite of last year. And for that reason only am I saying that she has a very good chance at winning.

I agree - lousy year for lead actresses in musicals. The real race will be lead actor this year.

Are you saying JLT wasn't that good in Urinetown?
I think she is an incredible talent, who deserves a Tony by now.

well. i understand you wanting anything from urinetown to win over millie. that's completely forgivable. however, sutton's performance in little women is one of those performances that just stays with you and you are in awe everytime she is on stage. she completely inhabits the character and i thought it was a truly accomplished performance. i think they will have no problem giving her the award. munk's right. audra? hello. as i said though, i've yet to see applegate (who i'm really rooting for to do well in this show! she has so much passion for it) and i'm going to see piazza so i'll get to see ms. clark. but it really is hard for me to imagine either of them as being better than sutton was in her show (which in my opinon is vastly under-rated by people here and critics)

I didn't like Sutton in LW - I thought she "mugged" her way through almost the entire show. It was like watching Carol Burnett in one of her skits. Very underwhelmed by her performance.

I also think Sherie has a good shot this year. Applegate too.

i would love to see norbert and sherie win! but i'd be happy for sutton, too. i thought she was great in LW.
and for the record, i would love to see JLT win one someday!

I thought Sherie was phenominal, but the role to me really isn't an all across phenominal leading actress part - I always go for something more tour-de-force, which is why I didn't think JLT deserved the Tony for URINETOWN, and why Christina Appelgate may have a GREAT chance.

While I may not agree with this thinking, I just don't think Tony voters will hand a Broadway neophyte a leading actress Tony for her first time on Broadway. Christina is a negligible TV star with little if any stage experience. I think many will think she needs to pay some dues first before nabbing a leading actress Tony.

I hate that "pay their dues" mindset, it's so pointless.

They gave Alan Cumming a lead actor Tony fpr his first role on Broadway, so it's not out of the question for them to do so with Christina. If she is well received she has a great chance at winning. But if she doesn't, it won't be because it's her first time on Broadway.
"I hope you're all happy, keeping Alan off the team. Couldn't you, for once, open your minds and hearts and hear something that he couldn't see? I, for one, am glad that Alan is blind, so he can't see what, I am so sad to say, you can't hear." -Jerri Blank

But he came from a strong theatrical background. People are more critical when the star is famous from Tv and (bad) movies.

I thought much of the buzz of the past few months practically handed the Tony to Victoria Clark. We'll have to see when "Piazza" opens. I have a feeling that DRS might really go far at the Tonys and Sherie may ride that wave. I personally think the race right now is between Sherie and Victoria.

If Curry, Azaria and Hyde-Pierce are considered "leads", then I'd nominate Christian Borle for Supporting. He shines every moment he's on stage. For that matter, Michael McGrath and Chris Seiber are terrific as well. SPAMALOT is the ultimate example of why there should be a BEST ENSEMBLE CAST Tony Award.

Poop, I have to wait until July to see it. I hope he and Lithgow are still in it.
