Greetings. In a bountiful season not every worthy show will receive a Tony nomination. Let us avert outrage and disappointment by contemplating this list of: BROADWAY MUSICALS THAT WERE NOT EVEN NOMINATED FOR THE 'BEST MUSICAL' TONY AWARD: Li'l Abner, Destry Rides Again, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Camelot, 110 In The Shade, On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, Jesus Christ Superstar, Merrily We Roll Along, Jekyll & Hyde, Aida. Look for additions to this list next month.

Well some of those did not deserve the nomination so ...
WICKED!
WICKED!
GOOD GRIEF!! I can't tell if you are being serious or not. But either way, it is so irritating. If you are being serious...Wicked was nominated, though it clearly didn't win. If you are trying to be funny...THAT JOKE IS SO OLD! The Wicked joke isn't funny anymore. Sorry...done venting. I am all smiles from here on out!
Oh, I thought this was going to be a thread about the OCC's snubbing the Monk!
not every thread has to be about that.
What that list really shows me is that Broadway ain't what it used to be.
Many of those are classic musicals that didn't make the cut. But the closer you get to the "present" the snubs seem more justified.
Nowadays, the challenging job is more about coming up with four contenders that don't include any embarrassing choices.
Twelvy, read closer - JEKYLL AND HYDE?
Raggedy Ann, Into the Light, and Smile all deserved 1986 Tony nominations...
Rathy---I did... and I think I updated my response before your comment.
Jekyll & Hyde ain't no classic!
WithoutATrace, "Smile," I'll give you. But the other two....
You can add "Chess" to the list.
And when you think of some of the shows that have been nominated for "Best Musical" you have to give a small shudder:
STARMITES
IT AIN'T NOTHIN' BUT THE BLUES
JUAN DARRIEN: A CARNIVAL MASS

So do I Rathnait62, her and John Gallagher, Jr. that is!
WAT---In no way did Raggedy Ann deserve a nod.
But I would add Smile (as you did) and Working to the list of nomination-worthy candidates.
But how about on the PLAY side?
Not nominated for Best Play:
Sweet Bird of Youth
Inherit the Wind
Auntie Mame
A Hatful of Rain
The Gingerbread Lady
...just to name a few.
I think WAT was being a hint sarcastic. Though, it doesn't really work when you mix one quality musical up with two others. Smile really is a charming show with a great score.
State Fair
Triumph of Love
Little Shop of Horrors
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (seriously...sooo good!)
Singin' in the Rain
