Jimmy- same goes for the actors who are now being employed.

Children- Corbin is probably a bigger draw than Hunter.

Regardless of the quality, unless or until the SEC asks questions about Godspell, or JCS stops selling 80-95% of its tickets, I see both running a respectable amount. Maybe not decades, but long enough.

Nothing will go anywhere til after the Tony nominations come out. The day after I'm sure some show will go the way Wonderland did last year (though no reviews have been quite as bad as that yet).

The SEC has other things to worry about Gvendo just move on with your life. And I honestly think with todays announcement of Corbin Bleu coming into the cast that Godspell will absolutely last longer, Davenport totally hit what he needed to do in recasting, someone that will bring more kids and families...

I have moved on with my life. One mention after several months and I'm dwelling on it? You, Namo, and everyone else need to get over it -- I've moved on. Selling a Dostoyevsky adaptation for Broadway is hard work, and needs all the focus that can possibly be given. Neither Godspell nor JCS were particularly good, and I certainly could have done better, but there's no changing the fact that they are open and doing business. Life sucks -- get a helmet.

to acl2006 and playitagain: I wil wish the same you are wishing for me. I hope that your places of business, where you work go out of business. Do you know there are many people that work these shows. If they close all these people are out of business, JCSS is selling well, I see the house every night from the stage and they are full, enthusiastic houses.

Congratulations, Schuyler, on your involvement with a show that sells 85-90% of capacity. Some shows can't even do that. I wish you guys well! It wasn't exactly my cup of tea (once you see nine different JCS productions, they all kind of start to have a sameness), but the cast were on fire, and I would definitely go back again just out of love for the score. Tell everyone mazel tov!

Bwayphreak- Gaveston is correct. I wasn't making a serious suggestion, but I still think it would be nice. Are Book of Mormon and Wicked going to close anytime soon? No way, but now we aren't going to get any new shows in the Gershwin and the Eugene O'Neill for a long time. I would rather see 10 more new shows each season than have houses taken up with long-running shows.

Even if all the long-running shows were favorites of mine like Grey Gardens, Caroline, Passing Strange and the like, I wouldn't want them running forever. Get new blood in there. How boring would it be if every theater landed a Wicked or Mormon that ran for years?

jimmycurry- I understand that the same people won't instantly be hired in the new show coming to that theater, or into any show at all. Is that a bad thing? A whole new set of people will gain Broadway experience and fulfill their "Broadway dreams."

Perhaps what we should do is close JCS immediately and get Catch Me running again by Tuesday. I mean all those people were put out of work, and their jobs are more important than those at JCS. Better yet let's just bring back Ragtime because those people should never have lost their jobs either. That show would just be passing its two year mark so we could probably be bringing in a new round of replacements, creating new work.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Des McAnuff and Ken Davenport will be sentenced to wrestle naked behind the TKTS booth nightly for an entire season.

That would be more entertaining than either of their shows.

Anyone who thinks High School Musical carries any weight with young audiences anymore needs to look at the numbers for Charlie St. Cloud, Beastly, Journey 2: The Mystery Island, etc. etc.

Notice thought he wasn't in any of those movies (which failed for he most part because they were awful movies) also Journey 2 actually has made a good chunk of money btw.

Yes, gvendo, your post in the Corbin Bleu thread demonstrates just how clearly you have moved on. I keep expecting you to explain how there were no known black people in theatrical productions before that fabled Harlem Godspell you won't shut the eff up about.

I'm aware he wasn't in either. But if former High School Musical fans can't even be bothered to stop by their local movie theatre to see Zac Efron, what makes you think Corbin Bleu will have any effect on the box office grosses on Broadway? He barely broke 80% capacity in his run of In the Heights, and that was 2 years ago.

80% is better then where Godspell is at now, plus the Richard Rodgers is twice as big as Circle In The Square. Also like I said all those movies were awful and weren't musicals like HSM was. Plus Zac Efron had a huge commercial hit with 17 Again.

Another thing to point out, Hunter Parish has 80,000 followers on twitter, while Corbin has like 650,000 followers, while its not going to skyrocket the box office he will be a bigger draw then Hunter was.

Namo, darling, if you hadn't read the phrasing of that post, it's called a 'joke.' It's plain you lost your funny bone a long time ago, but don't rub our faces in it, luv, it's unbecoming.

Leave Gvendo alone. HIs posts are now more bizarre than angry.
He is very busy writing his adaptation for Broadway, and I am anxiously waiting for opening night at a theatre to be announced. However he really should get back on bhis meds.

I just want to give props to Curtain's very astute response which seemed to fly by without notice. VERY FUNNY!!

Maybe not to us theatre hungry folks. But to those actors, its awful im sure. "Whoops there goes job security, and here i go back to the grind just hoping that my my next job will pay as well, and afford me to eventually own something." I get what youre saying about Wicked, and Mormon, but a two year cap would be a tough pill for actors and producers alike to swallow. In fact i think those Lion King and Phantom Lifers would full out riot!

Correction to junkyard: I am no writer; I am a producer, and lucky to be one.

Don't forget there is a whole lot of extra employment generated during fit-ups, load-ins, tech time etc- so actually, the more changes, the more work is created.

Having said that, what went wrong? I thought the JCS buzz was great (not that I care to see JCS ever again).

Godspell. Last I checked JCS hadn't resorted to Tweet Seats yet.

Maybe we should just get the Tony Awards to eliminate the whole " Best Revival" catagory. I mean after all, if it closed once, it is not worth bringing it back for other people of different generations to see.

Maybe all directors should check this message board before they decide which shows should come back for a run. As you can clearly see, the people here are the most knowledgeable people about Broadway...............

The two are not mutually exclusive, as any actor with a day job could tell you. I accept your best wishes with a smile. :)

"I understand that the same people won't instantly be hired in the new show coming to that theater, or into any show at all. Is that a bad thing? A whole new set of people will gain Broadway experience and fulfill their "Broadway dreams."

It is certainly not a bad thing, but at the same time it does still kinda blow for the ones who just lost what is likely the job of a lifetime. I guess that is why it feels kinda cruel to hope for a show to close or to bet against a show. Although on the flip side after Godspell's reviews came out, I admit I was fairly certain it wouldn't last the winter. But then I also wouldn't start hoping I was right.
