I think that the reason why John opted out the nudity is: it would be very hard to play an instrument and take your clothes off on the same time...
Neither of the actors in the scene in question in the revival play an instrument during that part of the show. They're a little busy -- you know, furiously making out, which you can't exactly do while playing an instrument either. So I can't imagine that's the actual reason.

I think I included it. The current revival in specific. 
Because really, Raul's body should be shared with the greater public.
