So, I'm looking for some songs to compile that are from OBCR's that basically have dance breaks in them. I'm talking real dance breaks, not little ten-second ones. I'm talking about:
"Gaston" from Beauty and the Beast
"The Speed Test" from Thoroughly Modern Millie
"Guten Tag Hop-Clop" from The Producers Movie Soundtrack (an exception!)
"Run And Tell That!" from Hairspray
"You Won't Succeed On Broadway" from Spamalot
"Dancing Through Life" from Wicked
"Let's Hear It For The Boy", "I Can't Stand Still", etc. from Footloose
Know what I mean? Then help me out! Much appreciated. :)

I Want To Be Happy from NO, No, Nanette--it's the mutha of all dance breaks.

the title song of Anything Goes, awesome tap, this song always keeps me upbeat
edit; I forgot like all of Chorus Line, especially The Music and the Mirror
I just want to say that it really annoys me when they cut-down the dance breaks on the OBCR. I guess they think that people are more interested in the lyrics than the music, but it just annoys me that my favorite part of the entire score of Wicked was taken out.

Skittles, especially as a musician, I totally agree. Most of the instrumental music is shortened. And often left out of the OBCs in general. I agree often they employ wonderful music that unfortunately can only be heard during a production
To answer the original question, there are so many!
West Side Story-Cool, America, Somewhere Ballet dream and nightmare
Aida-Strongest Suit (okay it's a fashion show but definitely sounds like dance break music), Dance of the Robe, Another Pyramid
Music Man-not so much breaks as dances that are part of and follow songs--76 Trombones dance, Marian the Librarian dance, lots of dances in Shipoopi
Fame: The Musical-There She Goes/Fame
Once On This Island-Pray
Phantom of the Opera-Masquerade
Wicked-Wonderful
Mame-Mame
Lots of others...
On the Wicked soundtrack that not the whole Dancing Through Life Dance Break..its actually the pairing of two parts of the scene in the part of the show. I WISH they could have put all of Dancing Through Life on the CD Dialogue and all.
CATS - pick a song
Nine - Follies Bergeres
Ragtime - Gettin Ready Rag
Movin Out - numerous

Thanks for everything, guys! We're putting together a show of the best Broadway dance numbers, and these really help!
Would you agree with me that every show has really one great dance number? I mean, clearly, some shows DEFINITELY have more, but in many of the ones I'm looking at, there's really one HUGE dance number. Agree? No?
Since you said break, I'm assuming you're not counting the OKLAHOMA dream ballet, and the ballet from CAROUSEL.

Ok, so not the OBCR but the Revival Recording with Cathy Rigby as Peter Pan has a kick ass dance break for Ug-a-Wug.

There's a lot of dance breaks on the revival album of The Music Man which is what I don't like about it.

I can't believe everyone has left off "42nd Street" from "42nd Street!" It's the best dance break in my opinion. And luckily, both the original cast album, as well as the recent revival album contain, if not all - most - of the original dance break.
My fav was already mentioned, but it is so good! so.... "coffee break" from the H2$ revival.
also- "she loves to hear the music" from the boy from oz- a great jazzy dance break.
I'm not sure that *every* show has a dance break Volley. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any in Les Miz or Sweeney.

I thought the 42nd Street Revival got all of the dance break.
"Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast has got almost 90% of the 7-minute dance break, they're missing just a couple of measures (The Russian dance-like interlude where the rug does cartwheels)
Singin' In The Rain
Meet Me In St. Louis
Will Rogers Follies (but Will-a-Mania is only 60% intact, they're only missing a 1-minute Native-American segment of the song, with lyrics as well)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Me Ol' Bamboo's dance arrangement is just about as the same as in the film, save for a couple of chromatic ascensions)
Mary Poppins
Billy Elliot
and...
Why does every cast recording of My Fair Lady always have the same dance break of "The Rain In Spain" for every cast? I think it's a good choice, but why don't they change it? Is it long enough?
If anyone's familar with Passion's audio commentary, you know it has a BIG dance number.
I think the revival recording of "Kiss Me Kate" has the dance break for Too Darn Hot.
