Final performance on August 20th. Is Spongebob next for the Marquis?

It was only a matter of time. The attendance figures week in and week out foretold this.

Honestly, if it weren't for looking at the grosses every week I would have thought it already closed.

They stayed open longer than the majority of us thought they would.

I'm surprised they're waiting till August to shutter. They've still another roughly 3 months

I'm surprised they aren't pushing till labor day

True, Grosses have been in the 53%-66% range since January and will continue that way till closing if not dropping below. It's time to close already! Never was a fan.

No idea how they were able to work out the finances to make it this long. Happy trails to everybody on the show (and it's amazing that Villafañe stuck with a pretty physically demanding role for nearly two years!).

Does anyone else suspect it will close earlier than August (mirroring Significant Other's situation)?

Normally I would but it could go Finding Neverland's path and stick to it.

Maybe the DREAMGIRLS revival could take the Marquis, but I definitely think Spongebob is the most likely bet. I seriously hope they don't diminish the set for Broadway a la Charlie.

Well, it wasn't the greatest show ever, but still, it was far easier to sit through than those critics' darling trials like Hamilton, Fun Home, Once, Groundhog Day, Comet, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Falsettos, Sunday in the Park With George, etc.
Let's hope the theatre's next tenant is not on the order of these.
Let's hope and pray!

Is the Singing in the rain revival still happening?

It lasted longer than I thought it would considering how its grosses have been for quite awhile now. I'm not surprised though that they are pushing through almost to the start of the tour. They'll probably do well enough in the summer and this seems like a show that will have success on tour

Articles about the casting of Derek Hough in Hairspray said it was "delayed" until 2017, but Weinstein Co. (which was producing it) has said it's delayed indefinitely. I'm guessing it's dead.

I enjoyed it for what it was but although the performers were mostly good, nothing about it aside from maybe the choreography(book, production values, staging, costumes, the way they fit in the pre-existing music, etc.) struck me as particularly ambitious and it showed. It felt like it was ready to go out on tour or to play schools (if they could get the casting right).

I know I'm in the minority, but I loved it. I saw it four times, each time with new people, and they all left absolutely loving it. In terms of grosses, at least for most of May, it's done about as well as a Cats or Kinky Boots. I'm sure it'll pick up the last few months over the summer, so it'll end with better grosses. It'll have run almost two years, not too shabby for a "jukebox" musical.

Ohh... I thought this show closed a while ago. It really slipped my mind. I never saw it, maybe I'll catch the tour if I'm ever near it.

I guess the Nederlanders and the Esteban's were getting tired of losing more millions. Even the rich know when it is time to throw in the towel. It will do very well in tour
