"The worst part is that they do not even have any discount coupons floating around the internet at the moment..."
They are falling into the Rosie O'Donnell Taboo trap.
Attention producers: release tickets to the papering services. If the seats are going empty, you can at least be kind to your actors and let them play to a fuller house.

According to Riedel's column last Friday (and, love him or hate him, because he gets info straight from producers, he's rarely wrong on this stuff):
"La Cage" is on its last legs (the rumor is that it will close in mid-June whether it wins the Tony or not)"

I agree, Goth. Zachs seems to be a spent force.
For all its terrific choreography, and the talents of the Cagelles, LA CAGE is still considered to be a "gay" show, and that makes it a tough sell to many - Remember how the original production had to replace the original red drawing with a photograph of a real biological female chorus girl giving a high-kick to give it a box-office boost?
I still think this revival was an oppertunity lost to make Albin an angrier, tougher drag artist (In that recent interview at Broadway.com, Denis O'Hare talked about his fierce take on Albin which terrified the unnamed powers-that-be, presumaby Herman & Fierstien). But by keeping Albin mild and wussy much of it plays like a gay minstrel show - Moran & Mack in pink-face.
CHARITY may be a much weaker revival all around, but the TV commercials stress lots of girlie T&A (making it much sexier than it really is). To paraphrase Al Dubin:
"Who writes the words and music for all the girly shows?
No one cares and no one knows.
Who is the handsome hero the villan always frames?
But who cares if they got a plot or not as long as they got a lot of dames!
What do you go for, go see a show for?
Tell the truth, you go to see those beautiful dames!"

La Cage was great... with Daniel Davis in it. I was dubious about Robert Goulet joining the cast and last night's performance at the Tonys... well... what was that?!
On a side note, I would love to see Denis O'Hare's fierce Albin.

The Cagelles were wonderful last night. They always are. Gary Beach didn't do badly, from the 20 seconds or so that we saw him. From Goulet's badly read lines (this in a role he's supposed to be actually playing 8 times a week!) they'll be lucky if they get 30 per cent next week. Yes, it was such a wise decision to part with Daniel Davis. When he was in the show, it averaged 80 percent and garnishing glowing reviews.
Loved the Neaderlander organization last night when they were so busy congratulating each other, that they couldn't thank the cast! From the marginally polite applause, the audience seemed to be disgusted with their antics, too. About time.

Was I imagining this? I thought when they showed the clip from La Cage, and they showed that scene where everyone is clapping through "The Best of Times", Daniel Davis was edited out. The camera sweeps the line up to Gary Beach, then there's a break and it comes in again with Gavin Creel on out. Georges was standing to the right of him, but he's been clipped out - although you can see him clapping. And I'm almost positive that's Davis' La Cage. I saw that shot on the clip on Broadway.com (besides on stage). And the Broadway.com clip is entire. It was kind of shocking.
Did anyone else see that? Maybe I imagined it. Could they be that petty?

Posted: 6/7/05 at 4:25amLets let this production die... and in 10 yrs... hopefully they will actually rewrite the show for the times and cast it properly and hire a competant director and an inovative choreographer and then we'll have a wonderful revival!!!

La Cage will rebound next week! Its Tony win will help its Box Office for the next several weeks. Its a gay ol' time and deserves much better treatment than its producers are giving it!
PLEASE FOLKS, SUPPORT LA CAGE...Goulet has a steller voice, Gary Beach has grown leaps and bounds in the role, and the Cagelles are worth the price of admission alone...Youll have a much better time than at the Hershfeld.

Posted: 6/7/05 at 11:50amNo, there is a 2 time TONY AWARD WINNING REVIVAL playing there nightly and is filled with talented singers, dancers, actors, a telling book, thoughtful lyrics and beatiful music! Unlike that show on the other avenue than can only boast its prety music and lyrics that were at one time performed by good talent!
