Can we stop trashing shows?! Jesus, give it up. Some people are fans of Sweet Charity and that's great! Others love La Cage and that's great, too! It's really okay to state one's opinion humbly and fairly without trying to get under the skin of other members on this board.

I don't know what crawled up your a** and died, Princeton, but the pettiness can stop right now. As far as La Cage's Tony meaning nothing, you're being incredibly unfair and inconsiderate. The show has been running since December, and, therefore, it does not make sense to compare its box office receipts to those of another revival that's been running for only a couple of months.

Personally, I'm pissed at La Cage's producers because they have done nothing to help their own show succeed (I already went into detail about my feelings on this in another thread) and I think they should be ashamed of themselves. The production, however, is wonderful to many of us (pre-Goulet anyway) and I'm saddened that things are going the way they are for the show.

P.S.- I don't know where the Denis O'Hare casting option came from, but I cannot imagine why one would consider casting him as Albin. This revival would have tanked at the box office much earlier with such a week choice for the extraordinary role.

La Cage is the best revival of the year... but that really doesn't say much... for mediocrity to be up against mediocrity by no means makes it great. I would love to see a musical with POSITIVE gay characters and relationships. That, unfortunately is NOT La Cage.

Good Heavens, Higgins, half the fun of being a B'way baby is knowing that the man in the moon is a bitch.

Hmmmmm Maybe they can get Goulet to play Mame in the upcoming revival... I'd pay full price to see that!!!

H.Higgins..
I love how hypocrites like you go after me..
Do a search buddy...look at ALLLLLLLL the threads bashing Christina and Sweet Charity. I don't believe there has been one thread stared that is set up purely to bash La Cage and I would never start one. When people attack something I love, I will defend it and I don't know where the heck you get off speaking to me like that. If people voicing their opinions bother you....go read a little golden book or something.

1--This site is here for us to bitch and
2--Having seen Denis O'Hare onstage many times, he is an inspired choice. One hell of an actor. If you're connected to the show, please state so. This statement sounds more than merely biased--"This revival would have tanked at the box office much earlier with such a week choice for the extraordinary role"

If nobody bitch, this site would be boring.

On that note, I really can't see middle America going to see La Cage's tour. I hope they do, but I can't. Updated On: 6/7/05 at 12:26 PM

Princeton, I'm sorry to have made you feel attacked. I was getting frustrated, not because of your defense of Sweet Charity (of course one should defend what they love), but because of your blatant, rude comments about La Cage. I, too, was defending what I love. I don't see how I was hypocritical. My point is that we can each love what we love and that's okay. If the time comes to defend something one's passionate about, I think it's best to do so by asserting the merits of what you are defending, not declaring brazen and perhaps hurtful comments about the other side's prized posession. That's what I meant.

I don't want to do a search for the threads bashing Sweet Charity because I have not once bashed the show and I think it's a shame that others have done so. That's why I jumped in on this thread, because I feel that people are unfairly attacking shows that others are fond of. That's all.

Sorry to have offended, I just wanted to put out there that your comments against La Cage were getting petty and were upsetting to fans like me, just as the many threads you described bashing Sweet Charity get on your last nerve.

Hi, Midtown!

1) I definitely understand the bitching. I have bitching to do myself (i.e.- my horrible feelings toward La Cage's producers I described). I just see a difference between bitching and repeatedly making harsh comments that attack a piece unfairly and make the fans feel like crap. Fans of Sweet Charity and La Cage all know that many people strongly dislike both current revivals and get the bitching. Fine. But the repeated, harsh comments can sometimes be too much. Sorry, it's JMO.

2) My comments regarding Denis O'Hare were not meant to make anyone look that deep into them. I am not affiliated with La Cage (or any other Broadway show for that matter) in any way. I think Denis O'Hare is a phenomenal actor, but PERSONALLY, he is not someone I would cast as Albin. I just don't think he works for the role. So, my comment about box office sales was simply my way of saying I think the show would have faired even worse than it unfortunately has with him in the role.

I still think Goulet should replace Firestein in Fiddler. Heck, why not have Gary Beach play Golde?

La Cage cannot be taken seriously with someone as feeble as Goulet as the headliner. It's really now just sad mess of a revival that should have been superb.

I heard Ghoulet was relacing Bill Irwin in "Virginia Woolf" - after all, he's so good with lines.
