Tied with Jackie Mason's show.
Let's face it, it's not tourist material. Broadway is for the tourists these days.
What a shame.
It's so much better and infinitely more interesting than Sweet Charity. The stage is dripping with talent.
The dancer in the bird cage is one of the most unique dancers I've ever seen. I hope the show does not go away any time soon.
I don't understand the need to bring up Charity.
This thread if for La Cage. It's a shame its doing so bad, but it really can't last much longer.
Pure shame.
But can you blame the public? No. There's no easy way for them to find out about shows. What they're really about.
Films are promoted all the time: on the radio, on television, in front of other films, in fast food restaurants, in shopping malls on directories, on the internet, etc.
The only way for the public to discover what shows are is to go to specific theatre websites. That's it. If you're not in the City - there's no mention anywhere.
If you're visiting NYC, you're a tourist. You're on vacation. You want to be entertained. "Oh - The Lion King! Loved that movie, let's see it on stage!" "Hmm - a show about The Wizard of Oz? Ohh - a prequel! Let's see it!" "A BILLY JOEL MUSICAL???? I'M THERE!"
"A musical about dragqueens? Let's go see that Abba show instead."
In 1999: "What is this? A show about the city of Chicago? Nah."
In 2004: "Ohhh! They have a musical based off the movie Chicago!!!"
"There's a Monty Python show! And look at all those names! Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, that guy from Fraiser! Let's see it twice!"
I brought up Charity because I was comparing two old book musicals.
I didn't see you compare crap.
All I saw you say was that is better than La Cage.
That is no comparison.
No lijay...Glebb brought up Charity because he saw a chance to slam it......YET AGAIN. No one asked to compare two old book musicals.
Yawn.
I feel badly for La Cage...I am hoping the Tony award will spark some ticket sales.
Hey, watch your manners.
La Cage "is not tourist material." Why not? It sure as hell was for the original production. I played hell getting a ticket for that.
I liked the revival better. :)
Are you serious? The original production was YEARS ago. Back when Broadway actually had an influence in the entertainment industry.
yeah 38.5 that sucks. maybe the tony performances will boost it a bit..

38.5 %? Jesus Christ...(sorry if that offended anyone)
Not if the public focuses on the fact that Mr. Goulet couldn't even read his line correctly.
Hook, I'm glad somebody got my point without my having to come out and say it. Thank you.
I enjoyed the original and it was such an event, Jerry Herman's new gay musical. But, I really like this production better.
The worst part is that they do not even have any discount coupons floating around the internet at the moment...haven't since like may 26th, it seems foolish during a time that they really need more audience. I was planning on going, but since I can go to sweet charity and many other shows cheaper it is definetly a consideration

The origional was a MUCH better production with a better principal cast. The cagelles are each brilliant dancers, but the production numbers in the origional far outshine this version. Furthermore... I am still pissed that there are no female cagelles which was a strongpoint in the original. THere is no reason to take off you wigs if we know that you're all men!!! And Jerry Jaks hasn't directed a great musical in YEARS!!!

Little Shop was NOT a great production... it was like La Cage, miscast and mis-directed. AND lost millions.
