OT: Food

Just wondering, a few things...Those of you in the city...what do you usually find yourselves eating?

And how much are Ramen noodles there? I love em.

re: OT: Food

Ok, I'm not your mother or your doctor, but...

ramen noodles have a horribly high amount of sodium in them. Something like 1,000 mg. That is not at all good for you!!

Having lived on ramen noodles while working in theater, I can tell you eat fruit, not ramen noodles.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Ahh! Gothampc, your post saddened me. Ramen is my life.

But thank you. How nice that you'd be so concerned about everyone's health!

re: re: re: OT: Food

I like to eat fruit, but if you don't eat it fast enough it goes bad...so sad...and raman, can last forever...well until its cracked...and sodium cant be that bad for you? lol

re: re: re: re: OT: Food

Sodium's only an issue if you have high blood pressure or kidney problems...in which case there's enough sodium in a single portion of ramen to catapult someone into a hypertensive crisis.

On the other hand, low sodium ramen loses something in the translation...

You can always add things to the ramen. I know people who add canned chicken or something to it for a little more pizazz!

And now they have the great new flavors~! (Creamy Chicken and Picante Steak)
But I was told by someone not to eat the Shrimp ones.... They are scary. And I never have ever since they told me what it was that made it flavorful.

Stevos, some fruits taste better with age. And I don't mean the dried up kind, Sweetie.
PEACE.

re: re: re: re: re: re: re: OT: Food

Ramen is the best...but with all the sodium you might as well mummify your body because it's that well preserved after a serving of the tasty noodles. My one bad experience was at my grandma's house and I was having a cup noodle and apparently it was about 10 yrs. old because after I warmed it up there were things moving in it. The heat gave life to tiny, white, yuckyyucky!!! maggots!!!

excuse me while I go vomit now ::BLECH::

Here's what I tell all performers when they arrive in NYC, and it one of the best pieces of advice you'll get from anyone, date a chef, you'll never go hungry. Trust me from this I know!

I was told... that they stuff that is leftover from the shrimp boats and stuff. Like the leftover shells and bits and peices are ground up into a powder and added to the flavor packet for the flavor. It justr sounds way too gross to me. Bits and pieces of who knows what.. ewww

And here I was thinking that I was going to get great advice on this thread on fine dining in New York City re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: OT: Food

Airlines like British Airways serve Ramen-like noodles on the long-hauls and where you can raid the larder in the middle of the night - great hot waker-upper !

I thought we were going to get some great restaurant tips as well. I must say, I always plan on eating somewhere in the theatre district or downtown but ultimately end up back in
Brooklyn.

There many cheap eats in the city, a nold student standby are the two DOJO's one on St. Marks Place and one on Mercer off of Broadway downtown. You can get plenty of dishes for a song. There a few places in the theater district on 9th Ave., but anything closer to the theaters usually is a little pricey.

If you are looking for cheap eats in the city, another place is any of the Dallas BBQ restaurants around town. A person can get a good chicken dinner for less than $10.

Jon-- I worked in seafood plant at one time. There's no WAY I'd ever touch a shrimp willingly!!!! I could tell you things but I don't even want to THINK about what I know.

Seafood, ugh.

Ramo noodles (not the shrimp kind)-- Yum! I'm a salt-a-holic. I used to get a lemon and eat it like a apple with tons of salt on it. And remember the sunflower seeds that were so coated with salt they were white? I used to eat those until my cheeks went numb. But I LOVED them! Please note everything is in the past tense--the spirit is still willing but the body is weak. Sigh. Getting old sucks.

I suggest Cafe Mozart on W70th between Broadway and Columbus. They have the BEST dessert in all of the upper west side. And mmm... their salads are yummy, as is... just about everything else on the menu.

Ohhhhh... and there's this GREAT candy store in the east village called... ****, what's it called?! Something like Discount Candy. They have candy in bulk... 100 blow pops for $10! And they have penny candy!!! And candy I haven't eaten or SEEN since I was like five years old. It's insane!!!!!!

I have the worst eating habits in the world... what exactly was the point of this thread again? LOL. I eat a lot of carbs... a lot more than I should be eating. I'm a fat ass. *sobs* re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: OT: Foo Pasta and alfredo sauce ALL the way! :) Good staple food for the typical poor New Yorker. I shop at Fairway usually.

If I eat out, I usually go to a diner (omega, west side cafe, utopia, etc.) or get a salad at City Market or something of the sort.

Ahhhh... FOOD! I'm so hungry now! Thanks a bunch! :P This is why I can't fathom how anyone can actually be anorexic... I'm such a binger, yo! Food is evil!!! (But so yummy... no?)
