Our Dear Dead Drug Lord, a world premiere comedy from WP Theater and Second Stage, started previews on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the McGinn/Cazale Theater at 76th/Broadway, and runs through October 20.
Is anyone going? Was there an invited dress? I am planning to see this later this month, so would love to hear any early reviews.

Posted: 9/14/19 at 2:17amI saw a reading of this play earlier this year—it’s really quite fierce. I loved it. I hope it gets the attention and rave reviews it deserves. Scheer is a force.

I’m not quite sure what they’re going for here. This is their idea of female empowerment? If so, God bless the Patriarchy. It reminded me of the recent Mac Beth by the feminist W. Shakespeare. Similar arc.
Anyway, it’s worth it for the young cast who give it their all and actually seem age appropriate for once. To say any more would risk spoiling it.

Interesting show. It's selling fast and I recommend it. It's fresh.

For anyone who has seen it:
What time did it let out when you saw it? I know the runtime says 90 minutes but I know lots of “90 minute” shows run long, start late, or both.
I’m hopefully seeing it in a few weeks, but if it turns out the show runs long I might have to skip it.

So glad it extended. Got a ticket near the end of October.

I saw the matinee on Saturday, 9/21. Thought that the cast was great and I enjoyed it up until near the end when I was sort of shocked, and then I mostly recovered by the time it was over. I spent the 30 minute walk back to my hotel thinking about it and wondering if I would have preferred it without the one scene that made me feel ill. I think it is worth seeing for the cast, but if you are squeamish about some graphic violence, you might want to mentally prepare yourself.

I’m not going to make it, but I’m curious — can you spoil the ending/twist/thing for me?

Pashacar, I'll send you a PM with the details. Overall, I thought it was worth seeing in case anyone is on the fence. I also like to support off-Broadway shows. It was my first visit to the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, and the first piece of work I have seen by the WP (Women's Project) Theater. I'm sure that I will keep tabs on what other shows the group is working on for the future.

Thanks for the heads up. I was going to pop in there to see what they were saying about it.
