Sorry to make another one of these, but I didn't want to hijack anyone else's personal trip threads for help. If I'm mistaken in board etiquette, please let me know and I'll do it differently next time.
Anyway, I have a short trip later this month to see some shows with my parents (in their sixties). We already have tickets for Hamilton, The Great Comet, and The Front Page. We have room for one more show on a Saturday night. Right now, we are considering the following shows: Something Rotten, Waitress, The Color Purple, Falsettos, and Oh, Hello. I'm super stumped trying to narrow this down. None of us have seen any of those shows before, so they would all be something new. I would love help trying to pick one of these! Also, does anyone know how often (if ever) any of those shows might be at the TKTS booth for a Saturday evening show?
Thanks in advance!
I don't think you could go wrong with either The Color Purple or Something Rotten.
The Color Purple and Falsettos are both splendid revivals that are not to be missed!
If you have a smartphone, you should download the free TKTS app and keep an eye on it, particularly on a Saturday night. It will give you an idea of which shows tend to be available (although there's no guarantee what will be at the booth when you're actually here).
Your list is quite impressive...and I really think it only comes down to taste. Are your parents open minded or set in their ways? Prefer a comedy or a serious story? There are pros and cons to each of those possibilities.
Yes, I agree! You are seeing three wonderful shows.
If you are open to adding to your list of options: I enjoyed Dear Evan Hansen in its Off Broadway run. That might be interesting to add, but it may be hard to get tickets. The score is wonderful, and Ben Platt is giving a Tony-level performance as the lead. Also, even though it will appeal to the younger set, I think people of any age can enjoy it.
Thanks all for the help so far!
I've just downloaded the TKTS app and will surely check in the next couple of weekends. Our Saturday night in question is before Dear Evan Hansen opens on Broadway or else I definitely would have gone for that one. Hopefully I can catch it next summer when I go back with friends.
As for my parent's tastes in shows, they're honestly both pretty easy going and open minded. I've yet to see them get offended by anything (included Book of Mormon, Sweeney Todd, Avenue Q, & Hedwig). I would say that my dad would generally prefer a comedy or a comedy-drama over a straight drama though.
