To say that I've been out of the loop is an understatement.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 1:22pmNext Fall is great, but a def. tear jerker. I'd pair it with something like Toxic Avenger because it's the total opposite, but still, really good theater. And OUR TOWN of course is a classic, and RUINED is great, although I think it was a little over-hyped. And I saw STUNNING last night at Rattlestick, and I thought it was a mess, and I wouldn't recommend it, although that was the first preview. But still, it opens relatively soon.

NEXT FALL is the best new play of 2009, RUINED is quite an accomplishment that features some absolutely stunning performances, and OUR TOWN is a must-see reinvention of a classic show.
I was let down by TOXIC AVENGER.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 1:31pmI was planning to see Toxic Avenger this week. What was it that let you down?

I just didn't find it very funny. The cast is game and are having a ball (particularly Opel) but I thought the material was really not that great. It's certainly mindless, campy fun but I found myself cringing at some of the jokes. And the score is banal.
But I know lots of people who saw it and loved it. So it could very well just be a matter of personal taste. But the best thing about the show, by far, is Nancy Opel. She's a riot.

I saw Ruined back in February when there wasn't too much hype behind it yet. It's still the best play I've seen this year. I may have contributed to the hype.
Thanks for the suggestions. I just checked the tickets for Next Fall and nothing is available for the rest of the run. Are there other options for getting a ticket? Maybe stand-by?
For Toxic Avenger, how necessary is it to see the movie prior to the show, because I don't have much interest in seeing the movie.

Posted: 7/29/09 at 2:02pmI didn't see the movie before the show and I feel like I missed out on the jokes a bit. So you may want to check it out before you see the show. But it's certainly not like a mandatory prerequisite.
