With the summer fast approaching, is anyone aware of any Off-Broadway companies seeking ushers? Also, how to go about applying?

The Public often needs house staff, particularly in the summer. I would go to their website to see.

The Public is hiring front of house people for the Delacorte.

Checkout the JOBS section of PLAYBILL.COM - that's where I found job opportunities for the Tribeca Film Festival and Shakespeare In The Park in the past. Also checkout The Barclays Center employment section on their homepage - I worked there for three years Ushering and it's alot of fun - good luck

That is not the case- and I worked on their house staff for several years. They have summer hiring every year specifically to cover the demands of the Delacorte and any summer programming in their downtown spaces.

Only a few years. But the fact that there is a current job posting for staff at the Delacorte, and this has been the standard practice for a long time, including the years since I've left, and the fact that the downtown space has the Total Bent through June and Privacy starting in early July (plus house staff posts in the lobby), give me no reason to suspect that's changed.



Heck, that job posting was put on Playbill only on the 10th.

There was no tier system when I was there- it was first come first serve to grab available posts, so those with more open schedules were able to get them.

But the Delacorte requires more than two dozen staff members a day, between box office, ticket takers, line people, and actual ushers. Even with minimal programming downtown, there's no way for it all to be fully staffed without hiring seasonal people.



Again, the fact they've even put up a listing in the last week looking for staff suggests this is the case.

I worked for several summers at the Delacorte. Unless things have radically changed, a good portion of their FOH people are not full time Public employees. As Kad said, the Delacorte requires such a large number of FOH people that it would be impossible to staff it exclusively with folks who work downtown.

Anyways, back to the original question.

I found my usher spot from Playbill.com last year summer, but my specific theatre's show isn't running for much longer so they aren't hiring.

If the Delacorte is hiring, give it shot - I worked the Summer they did Into The Woods and sat Mr. Sondheim several times and Tom Hanks and Meryl. It rained, raccoons came on stage and it was the best 4 months I had while still working a 9-5 M-F - Good Luck

The Public did the tier system a few years ago, but they stopped doing it in 2014. They hire a lot of ushers just for the summer/the park. Many are college students who want to spend the summer in NYC. Even when downtown is dark (which it isn't this summer), they still need more usher for The Delacorte. I worked FOH at The Public for a few years, so feel free to PM me with any questions.
