Posted: 5/26/04 at 4:14pmRoger Bart was an unsubstantiated Broadway.com rumor.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 4:20pmAh yes perhaps I should be used to them by now. Don Stephenson is a wonderful actor and will do a terrific job.

He did a marvelous job as Leo Bloom in The Producers. He also made a lot of his smaller roles in Parade very memorable. I think he was personally the best sung Leo Bloom/Leo Frank.
Leo Renfield?

Will those show involve either Melissa Errico or Kelli O'hara being naked?
Because, if so, I'm going to be there nightly.
Otherwise, I'll probably have to pass.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 4:37pmI don't think either gets naked, but Kelli gets her head cut off.

Though Bart would never confirm that he was up for the part, it would seem that he either a) turned it down or b) was up against Stephenson and Don got the role.
I could easily see Roger in this role, but not Don. Don't know what the reasoning was, but Bart would have brought a wonderful manic edge to Renfield that I don't see Stephenson having.

Posted: 5/28/04 at 1:05amIt sounds like a very strong cast. So many recognizable names, from the leads to the ensemble! I only hope the show is as strong. Did anyone see the out of town try-out?

I've heard the show is a big mess, but I would pay to watch Tom Hewitt read the phone book! He is a very dynamic performer and I would hope that he has good discretion when picking projects.
I'm willing to give it a chance.

Let's see...SamIAm is reviewing Don Stephenson's ungiven performance, and GreenGirl is calling the show "a big mess" after the company has been in rehearsal for exactly one day.
Patience people.

Oh, I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. You are absolutely right. I should have said where I heard it was a big mess. Family members who saw the show in it's out of town tryout last year said it was a big ol' mess. That is actually a nice interpretation of what they really said.
BUT, please notice that I did say I am very much wanting to give the show a chance.
As much as my post may have led you to believe I am one of those people (and there are LOTS of them out there) who are hoping shows fail when they come in, I certainly am not! I hope every show that comes in is a big success. But thank you for keeping me honest by pointing out the seemingly shallowness of my last post.

Posted: 5/28/04 at 2:20pmI saw the production in La Jolla, and others here have too. (It was three years ago, by the way). Opinions vary about the quality of it, but I found it faithful to the Bram Stoker book, very straightforward, though somewhat cool and uninvolving. Still, there were some very attractive songs, good performances and a stunningly theatrical physical production and staging. To call it 'a mess' is needlessly dismissive, but your family members may have higher standards than I. With a little more figurative 'blood' in the telling of the story, I thought the show could be a success when I saw it. And it has been reported that much work has indeed been done. We'll see in a couple of weeks.

Posted: 5/28/04 at 2:37pmI saw the show in LaJolla as well, and while I did enjoy it I thought it needed work.. but that is what out of town tryouts are for. From what I have heard the recent readings greatly improved upon the book and added some very good new songs.

Well redhot, I'm not surprised. For someone who hates Wildhorn so much, you ALWAYS find a reason to see his shows and then of course bash them repeatedly. Oh thats right, you had "friends" connected with his other 3 shows, so you got in free and apparently thought it your public service to bash the shows that employs your "friends" at every possible opportunity.
Why are the Wildhorn bashers the first in line to buy tickets? If I really hate something, you couldn't pay me to waste my time on it.

Peter - you are always itching to pick a fight - perhaps you will want to get your facts straight before lashing out at people on this board. I NEVER have seen a Wildhorn show for free, wether my friends were in it or not. I always pay my own way. And if you go back and read the thread that I posted here earlier you will see that I am rather anxious to see this one, as I am hoping that he will have finally written something I might like, seeing as how the cast is so good. I know I'm gonna regret saying this - but you seem to be someone who has no respect for himself or his peers, judging from the way you attack constantly and never seem to have a positive thing to say about anything or anyone.
Don't bother to reply, because I won't waste any more of my valuable time on you.

My chorus teacher promised that we would see a Broadway show next year as a field trip, and he said he wanted to take us to see Dracula. Hopefully he will follow through on his promise. I know I will be there to constantly remind him.
I'm excited to see this show. Are there any media clips from the other production available?
