I think it might be finalized, but not announced to the public. I wish I could remember those other two shows. Maybe On the 20th Century? Oh well, they'll announce officially soon enough.

On the 20th Century is being done by actors fund.

Here is what Ken Mandelbaum said about the Encores season yesterday.

"Speaking of Encores!, two titles have been rumored for the 2006 season, which is likely to open with Kismet. This is the sort of well-known, classic score with numerous recordings that one might think Encores! could skip. Yet a full-scale Broadway revival of the show seems unlikely, so a concert version makes sense. Encores!' Kismet sounds like a good vehicle for Brian Stokes Mitchell.

The other Encores! title mentioned is the Charles Strouse-Lee Adams It's a Bird...It's a Plane....It's Superman. The 1966 musical was to have been part of Encores!' 2002 season, but after September 11, 2001, it was thought best to cancel it (the first act ends with Metropolis' City Hall getting blown up), with another Strouse-Adams show, Golden Boy, substituted. But perhaps enough time has passed so that Superman can now be welcomed.

Other titles rumored in recent seasons for Encores! include Sondheim's Anyone Can Whistle, George M. Cohan's Little Johnny Jones, Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon, and Kander and Ebb's 70, Girls, 70 and Flora, the Red Menace."

Yeah, I know it's being done by Actors' Fund, but I remember specifically 70,girls being on the list and that another of the three shows was being done at Showtunes here in Seattle. That leaves Flora or 20th Century (Fiorello was Encores' first show), but I don't think they'd do two Kander & Ebb shows in one season. But I do remember Kismet being on the list with 70 girls. Though this was almost 2 weeks ago, things may have changed.

I'm telling people what I heard from a credible New York source. Just wait for the announcement if you don't want to hear the rumors.

I would love for Encores to take this show on! I think it would do well in concert.

BobbyBubby..I think we should wait to hear from a formal New York press release to confirm this news. I have talked to many a credible New York source too and they always advise to wait for a press release.....just make sure things do not fall through. Smart move.

I agree Cheno. I loooooooooove your Carolee avatar by the way. In about 40 years, she'd be great in 70, Girls, 70 in the Natwick role.

BobbyBubby, Robert darling, whom do you think is ideal to star in a new version of this?

Well, my dream cast would include Dorothy Loudon, but well, yeah...

Not sure. I'd love to see Stritch have another triumph in an actual role.

Oh God! I am SO right there with you. If that person's Gwen Verdon experiment works to bring her back for CHICAGO maybe we can get them to do a little work on Dorothy Loudon for us too!

I second that emotion.

I just hope Florence Henderson stays away from any concert or revival of the show.

ROYAL WEDDING is one of my favorite movies that she is in! I would ahve loved to have seen her do Maggie the Cat and Nellie Forbush among the many other roles she played in theatres across this country.
