Anyone else adore this song from 70 GIRLS 70? "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty!" God, I love this show. I'm listening to it now. I would love for the show to have the book fixed and brought back to Broadway! Just think of the amazing talent that could be put into this show.

I was just talking to someone here yesterday who had a Mildred Natwick avatar! Can't remember who...
Yes, the show should have run more than 32 performances.
Sad fact: David Burns died during the tryout of this show. He was performing "Go Visit Your Grandmother", and dropped from a heart attack.

Wait a second while I remove myself from Wonderboy's leg...
Okay.
I love this song, so much. And this is one of my favorite scores of all time.
Favorites include "Home" (I got anothe leako, but he's in puerto rico. Chucka chucka chucka), "See the Light", and "Boom Ditty Boom".
Booooooooooooooooooom. Ditty dity dity. Boom.

Posted: 9/5/05 at 11:29pmRegarding David Burns. I had always heard he finished 'Go Visit Your Grandmother', went offstage and died with the applause ringing in his ears. I didn't realize he died onstage.

You might be right, Hushpuppy. I, too have heard that version of his death.
Shenb28, the show is basically about a group of eldery people who decide to become thieves after realizing that nobody notices when an old person steals things. The proceeds from their thievery would be used to better accomidate themselves in the eldery home they all lived in.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 12:41amI too love this show! I have the London Cast album of the late 90's as well as the original Broadway. The cast/orchestra numbers were cut down dramatically and the Elephant Song was cut completely. I wouldn't recommend it.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 10:33am70 Girls 70 is a fantastic show. My vote for favorite song is "Yes," perhaps the most positive and inspiring song i know. I sing along with it loud and long before every audition.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 10:58amAh yes! "YES" is one of my favorite Kander and Ebb songs too. Mildred Natwick does a admirable job on the cast recording but I just love the arrangement they did for Liza Minnelli as her opening number. The song takes on a whole new life. If you've never heard it before I highly suggest picking up the "Liza With A Z" concert CD which has been discounted to $8.49 at CDUNIVERSE.COM. It's one of the best re-arrangements of a song I've ever heard and Liza is in her prime singing it.

The London version uses the new revised book by David Thompson. It uses a cast of eleven. Not only does it cut the elephant song, it also cuts "You and I, Love" (the television song). It also adds a song for Harry and Walter called "I Can't Do That Anyomore". The song was originally performed by Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly on Frank's "Old Blue Eyes is Back" TV special.
The worst thing about the London recording is that even though they say the show takes place in New York, the performers make no attempt to disguise their British accents!

Posted: 9/6/05 at 12:35pmDon't walk. Run out and get this album if you don't have it! I think the reason this show didn't do so well is because the whole going in and out of the 'show' with the actors at the reunion just got so confusing.

It is officially on my list and given how much I respect both Wonderboy and BobbyBubbly's opinions it has moved up to #1 on my "next CD to buy" list.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 1:17pmI always thought of 70 Girls 70 as Kander and Ebb's Follies.

Posted: 9/6/05 at 1:18pmYeah, me too. They are similar and I'm sure that didn't help out 70 GIRLS 70 either.

You're right, Follies (a better show with a similar concept) may have hurt the show. ANd the book is really troubled.
It will always be one of the longest running shows on my cd player!

70, Girls, 70 has a bad book and a confused concept... that's why it failed... a good score does not a good show make.

I think it might be finalized, but not announced to the public. I wish I could remember those other two shows. Maybe On the 20th Century? Oh well, they'll announce officially soon enough.
