Saw it last night with a sold-out audience that was shaking the walls with laughter. Of course, they were mostly seeing their own lives on that stage! No playwright around understands the obsessions, the foibles, and the vocabulary of neurotic middle-aged NYC Jews like Charles Busch. It all remains a very rich vein of humor and Busch is one of its last practitioners. This aspect of New York life is rapidly disappearing and we will be the poorer for it. Fortunately Busch is leaving us plays like this one and TALE OF THE ALLERGIST'S WIFE that will soon become a kind of comic key to a vanished sub-culture. If that sounds heavy and professorial, forget it--all you'll want to do when you see this is laugh, helplessly and hysterically, like last night's audience did. Busch is undoubtedly making all kinds of changes during this preview period, so it's only going to get even better.

i really don't understand why people think it's a good idea to shill this transparently ... especially in a forum like this. everyone on this board knows exactly what's going on here -- no one is fooled -- and it makes me for one think that a show is in trouble whenever i read this kind of tripe. overall, posts like this decrease the likelihood i'll see a show ...
