The Olivier Awards Ceremony starts at around 19:30 UK time on Sunday evening.
Once again there is no television coverage in the UK, but the Society of London Theatre promise the most up-to-date online coverage here:

Posted: 2/18/07 at 4:09pmWho is the front runner for Best New Musical? I'm hoping for Caroline, or Change.

It should be Caroline, or Change, the show has gotten many accolades since it opened on the West End, it certainly deserves the recognition it was denied on Broadway.
Rufus Sewell won for Rock n' Roll over the two men from Frost/Nixon, wonder if he'll transfer as well.

If you care to check the Entertainment section of news.bbc.co.uk a full list of winners appears to have been posted despite the fact the ceremony has not yet concluded. I've done an official complaint, but if you don't mind spoilers, check it out. ^_^

Posted: 2/18/07 at 4:50pmCongrats to Jenna Russell and Daniel Evans: two superb performances in SUNDAY IN THE PARK: hopefully this will up their chances of repearing their roles in the New York production.

I am so VERY VERY pleased that SITPWG has done a board-sweeping! It truly was an insanely wonderful production, so it's nice to see it rewarded.
I'm also pleased at 'Caroline, Or Change' getting Best Musical and Jim Norton getting Best Performance in a Supporting Role. And if I may say this, I'm pleased that 'Spamalot' and 'The Sound Of Music' *didn't* win. *ahem*
I'm upset 'Frost/Nixon' hasn't got anything though. Spread the word now; I want to see Tony awards for this talented cast and crew! Right?

re: Olivier Awards Coverage#14
Posted: 2/18/07 at 5:00pmit's a shame about Tonya losing, but i'm glad it's to Jenna who is justfantastic on the cd (And probably better live)

It's kind of sad that Pinkins lost but Russell's victory makes her a strong candidate for the transfer across the pond.
The Olivier seems to be more fair and spread than the Tonys, no show seems to monopolize the awards (though Sunday in the Park with George was a big winner).

Posted: 2/18/07 at 5:44pmGood for Sunday...! It was a pretty damned brilliant production.

It's actually very rare for one production to "sweep" the Olivier Awards. I'm not sure the last production that won as many Oliviers as SUNDAY IN THE PARK...
Don't feel bad for Tonya Pinkins - the Oliviers are very rarely awarded to American actors. Patti LuPone and Jane Krakowski are about the only two Yanks I can think of who have picked up the actual trophy.
EDIT: Just peeked at the Olivier Awards website. Nathan Lane and Carlin Glynn also both won Oliviers (for the Producers and Whorehosue). But it really is rare for a non Brit to win the award.

Apart from Philip "three Oliviers and a lovely Aussie accent to boot" Quast, right? ^_^

re: Olivier Awards Coverage#20
Posted: 2/18/07 at 6:50pmWell, Quast is pretty much an honorary Brit, by living and working in the UK so much and by virtue of being Australian!

It'd have been interesting if Elena Roger had won the award, probably first Argentine woman to win either the Olivier or the Tony (Graciela Danielle has been nominated numerous times for the Tony but has yet to win).
re: Olivier Awards Coverage#22
Posted: 2/18/07 at 6:52pmBy "non Brit" - I really meant American. There is certainly a much closer kinship between the Brits and the Aussies.

Posted: 2/18/07 at 7:13pmCongratz everyone! Well deserved Sunday!!! Im happy with the results but still can't believe Cabaret won Best Choreography... it was just horrible when I saw it...

But tragically still not close enough to lure Anthony Warlow to the northern hemisphere. *sighs*
