Saw it tonight thru Today Tix. Seats were 3rd row orchestra on the 3 and 4 off the aisle on the right side. Sad to say, about 1/3 or more of the theater was empty.Large patches of the orchestra were empty.
To the question of subsidies, the government is broke. There are many more important things for the government to fund. Theater is not a right. If a show cannot make it on its own it closes To expect others to pay for you to go to theater is unrealistic. The producers use papering services to fill seats. We see shows like this.If not for this we would not see it and would not expect others to pay for us to see it. We accept that.
The show was entertaining. Hard to believe the show is almost 70 years old. The show will get many Tony nods so the producers will have to pump money into it until at least the spring crowds start coming. It is naive to believe ticket prices would go down if theater was subsidized.
Big mistake going into that barn of a theater.
I'm truly confused by your comment on how you can't believe the show is 70 years old. It is so apparent. The jokes, and the writing in general, is SO dated that I couldn't stop rolling my eyes throughout. I found it to be a humungous bore.
The staging helps immensely taking much of the staleness out of it.
The sets, costumes and the dancing really inject some life into it.
The fact that this production beats the hell out of many of the newer shows entertainment wise says a lot.

I am with Vote Peron, I was so bored. Pretty dancing and a full orchestra only go so far.
Do not know what the gerbils reaction was.
OK that is your honest opinion
You are in the minority here. I know how it feels.
I'm so glad people are starting new threads each time they see a show on a particular date. Riveting stuff.
If interested, the movie version is on TCM Channel 82 TWC on Sunday 12:15 PM
Why don't you start a new thread about the TV listing?
"You are in the minority here."
I think that this is my favorite inanity of all BWW inanities. To assume that a) you really have any real idea what most people think, and b) you're aligned with most people, and c) even if most people held a certain opinion that alone made it "right"... well, it's just inane. It's herd mentality at its worst.
