What are peoples favorite songs from this production?
The ballads in the show are timeless and beautiful. "Some Other Time," the one I posted above with an aging opera singer accompanied by the aging composer, is gorgeous as a quartet, as it is in the show, or as a solo. But here's young Bernadette Peters singing a more youthful version of it in a medley of what SHE considers to be the great songs from On the Town:
My personal favorite song is "Lonely Town," which is done beautifully in this production by Tony Yazbeck, followed by an a capella vocal chorus that is a tour de force. Here it is, in several versions, male and female, operatic and pop:

To add to PJ's post, virtually every other song in the score is a gem, but what truly elevates the score is the stunning ballet music. Honestly, some of the best compositions of Bernstein's rich career.

I don't want to overwhelm the thread with music links but here I go anyway. Here's the Barbara cook version of some other time. leaves out the lyric about shaving and doing dishes. makes it a more universal application, I think. and the piano arrangement gets me in the gut.

and here's the place I first heard Some Other Time. on the hbo series Six Feet Under, believe it or not. the song blew me away. never heard anything like it. had to find out what it was and as much as I could about it. this clip still affects me. what a show!
