According to the TKTS iPhone app, it is 50% off for tonight's show, so it would be 50% off of their best full-price ticket cost (non-premium)...

I would honestly be surprised if this show wins Best Revival. I don't think its gonna stand a chance against The King and I. I actually feel like this show is gonna be the one musical revival left out...

"According to the TKTS iPhone app, it is 50% off for tonight's show, so it would be 50% off of their best full-price ticket cost (non-premium)..."

LOL! No, I realized that. I was just wondering what some people's prices were when they went through TKTS. Like if someone got Balc, what'd they pay and was it worth it? Same with Orch and Mezz. Obviously I could go on all the apps and websites and do the math myself, but I just wanted to hear people's stories as to whether if the TKTS deal they got was worth it. I should've been more specific. Thanks though!

Honest to God I don't understand how ANYONE could dislike this production.

The fabulous score played by a big lush orchestra. The beautiful, athletic, life affirming dancing. Even if the comedy or story aren't you thing how could you not love that??

"LOL! No, I realized that. I was just wondering what some people's prices were when they went through TKTS."

OK, I still don't see the distinction between you knowing they are offering 50%, but still wanting to know what people paid. On the Town

My understanding is that TKTS typically doesn't give you every section to pick from, trying to sell the top-priced, unsold tickets at a discount first.

Of course, with the new discount codes, for which I think I got 5th row, side orchestra aisle, for $79, I'm not sure why anyone would queue up in the cold as that is pretty cheap.

I saw it today for $20.00'thru the tix today lottery app- the best thing ever-- I enjoyed it.. Very old school Broadway... The dancing is wonderful and the boys are pretty.

To Lovebwy

Everyone has different tastes. If you like it, fine. It does not mean everyone has to like it. Many universally praised shows had their detractors.

It's a gorgeous production of a true classic. Fantastic singing, amazing dancing and a fun albeit lightweight story. A wonderful evening in the theatre. I'm sure if they had added a teen angst subplot, it would have resonated more with some on here but in 1944, they didn't even know what that was. People also need to remember, it premiered on Broadway during WW2. People went to the theater to have fun, be entertained and forget the misery of wartime. It was perfect release from reality and that's what theatergoers wanted.

I also saw it through the on-line Todaytix lottery. I won the first time I entered. It was a perfect seat and as a first timer, by using someone's referral code, I ended up actually seeing it for free. Right up until curtain, I kept expecting someone to come up and tell me "you didn't really think we were actually going to let you see this for free, did you?", but thankfully no one did.

I really wanna see this show. It seems like a classical broadwayshow with lots of dancing. I was lucky enough to see 'an american in paris' in paris last month. It's also very classical with great dancing.

I heard about the ticket lottery. hope to get tickets as well. I made a profile as well and my code is DNTGN

Hope this show will still be on when i visit in 4 weeks. Hope to see it on sunday evening. where are the tickets located when you win the lottery.

I'm surprised by negative reaction to this production. It has an appealing cast, that full orchestra and superb choreography (with Josh Bergasse making the strongest, most confident Broadway debut of any choreographer in recent memory). After two failed revivals (one that was rather good, one that was not), it was brave to try it again on Broadway, and I really wish it well. Those dismissing it as a cartoon ... well, it IS a cartoon, and it has its moments of Comden & Green anarchic zaniness that I suppose might not be for all tastes.

For the poster who was looking for "meaning" from the show... there are musicals in many eras that were just seeking to provide a good time. Nevertheless, there's an undercurrent of sadness and longing that is in On the Town, that reaches its zenith in "Some Other Time," which may be one of the greatest songs in musical theatre. For the time it was written and when it takes place, when America was at war, the feeling that they are singing about meeting up "some other time," but for the sailors, there may not be "some other time". I think then the show's message of finding love, even for a moment, becomes palpable, particularly in Claire's opening lyrics: "Twenty-four hours can go so fast/You look around, the day has passed. When you're in love, time is precious stuff; Even a lifetime isn't enough." If you want meaning, look no further than that.

"Not funny" is subjective. The audience laughed heartily when I saw this production and at three of four other productions of On the Town I've seen. As far as 'outdated," I don't look to a 1944 musical comedy script to be up to date on 2015 male-female relations. Even if you don't find the material funny, there are so many other virtues to the score, the choreography, the performances, that I find it hard to fault the production's existence or question its reason for being or wish for its failure.

"smaxie, whats your rebuttal on the outdated and not funny comedy"

I like that smaxie has to break down the specific rationale for the strong points of this revival, where you are summarily dismissing it against three shows that haven't had a single performance...

It seems dismissive to rank it below shows that haven't had a single preview, based on your invented expectation of how they will do, no?

On the 20th Century is gonna be better than On the Town because it has KC in it and a better director, and Andy Karl is in it. Gigi has a new book, and its gonna be good, and has Howard Mcgillin in it. The King and I is gonna be amazing because, well, Kelli O'hara and Bart Sher and his staff. On the Town will be nominated for Choreo

Nor does having O'Hara or Sher attached. Do I dare mention "Bridges..."

"Gigi has a new book and is gonna be good"

...that's a fair assessment. Sure - lets go with that... *eye roll* Updated On: 1/19/15 at 02:48 PM

yea you guys are gonna wait and see. On the Town will be nominated for Choreo, might even win Choreo depending on how good An American in Paris Choreo is but I still think On the Town will lose that category. They also might be nominated for Featured Actress for Jackie Hoffman, and maybe lighting, but thats it. They will then give notice after the nominations.
