Once on this Island - Movie

I have heard rumors of this. Has anyone heard anything.

The only thing I have found is a Wikipedia article that references Claire Danes (in a new role: Athena, Ti Moune's birth mom) scheduled for release in 2009.

I found this on the "Once on this Island" website:

In a special issue of Newsweek magazine, which celebrates 100 years of 100 movies, the article on musicals states that Jason Alexander, of Seinfeld fame has been trying for four years to finance a movie version of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND!!!! He is quoted as saying people love the score, but still balk at the idea of movie musicals.

I sent them (Ahrens and Flaherty) a letter, and they said there are no plans at the moment to make a Once on this Island movie. Ronnik, is there any new info?

Ti Moune's birth mother??? As in "blacker than coal and low as dirt" Ti Moune? I can only assume the book would be drastically altered.

I've said for years Once On This Island should be an animated feature. It could be gorgeous. Perhaps Claire Daines would be providing the voice of this Athena character?

Wikipedia is not the most trusted name in news. The very fact that anyone can update an entry should make users somewhat skeptical. IMDB has nothing listed so I don't think it's for real.

If it is true that Claire Daines will be playing Ti Moune's birth mother in a live action film treatment of Once On This Island, then there is absolutely NOTHING exciting about it.

And yeah, I was sort of curious about The Wiz reference as well, but then, that particular role could easily lend itself to colorblind casting, but why Claire Daines?

Perhaps they meant to post those listing on Clarie Huxtable's Wikipedia page? That would make so much more sense.

they pushed Porgy and Bess back so she could be in the upcoming revival of The Crucible as Tituba.

On wikipedia, OOTI is listed under Kenny Ortega's credits for 2009. Then again, wikipedia is of the devil...
