Just found out that tomorrow night (8/17) America's Got Talent (NBC) will have the cast of Les Mis 25th anniversary Tour on the show to perform One Day More.
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
Wow, that was painful. I saw this tour eight times at the Paper Mill Playhouse, and will see it again when it returns to the east coast. This (taped) performance was not good.
I have to agree...that was pretty awful. I'm not sure if it was the sound being distorted somehow, or what, but it didn't sound good at all. The harmonies were awful. Is this the current state of the tour? I saw it at Papermill and in Philly, and it sounded great each time. This was just...bad. One Day More- America's Got Talent
Individual performers sounded strong and decent enough. But this is based on the YouTube video; I'm sure the broadcast feed sounded much worse through TV speakers.
[And I've always thought America's Got Talent had terribad sound mixing.]
Wow I LOVE that Eponine's voice. It's so beautiful. And I love her vibratto on " there" I think they did well. It was def. sound I think haha. Although I think that whole thing with them behind the judges was...awkward.
"Life in theater is give and take...but you need to be ready to give more then you take..."
I thought Chasten Harmon sounded the worst, just awful. I hope it was just sound issues b/c if she's still Eponine when Les Miz hits SF next year, I am going to be very disappointed.
I saw Clayton as JVJ at the Papermill, so it's interesting to hear the rest of the familiar cast with a new lead voice. (It may just be me, but I'm not fond of how he hangs onto "more", though he sounds like he'd do v. well in the role in general.)
Just seeing Varela in Javert's garb brings a smile to my face. That was one astounding performance. And Hays, as always, shines.
I must say, I still think the marching of the 25th Anniv looks... awkward. The steps forward were impressive on stage, but it's lost in this translation, and additionally, half the time the students aren't actually, well, marching...
The marching looked awkward on TV because you could not see the background moving along. On stage, they actually seemed like they were marching on the streets of Paris.
I too liked Chasten's voice for Eponine. It was gentle and feminine yet had a boyish charm which would allow her to be mistaken for a boy in disguise when she's in the barricards.
