So does Jamie Fox! He was on Regis and Kelly earlier this week to promote "Miami Vice" and ended up talking more about "Dreamgirls" then that film, hehe.
He went on and on about Jennifer Hudson saying that her "magnificent" performance of "And I Am Telling You" will bring tears to your eyes! (High praise from someone who was on the Fantasia bandwagon for the role of "Effie").
Some specific details of the film and Jennifer's performance as Effie have been revealed to me by someone who saw the "test screening", I won't spoil anything for anyone but you can rest assured your love for Ms. Hudson will be even greater after you see her "bring down the house" at your local cinema!
And how long (decades) has it been since we've known, just known months in advance that a prestidge musical was going to open in the fall? Something serious and well-made, something plush and and on-key? It really has been one helluva long time. I am filled with anticipation.
I actually like the movie version of "One Night Only". Atleast Beyonce is more believable as Deena than Audra.
Umm. . . . . Say what? At first glance maybe but Audra's acting ability more than makes up for it. And he ONO was in the correct syle. More than I can say for this version. But, I do like it.
The "correct style" for what?
Certainly not a disco hit in the '70s. Beyonce's version nails that completely... and the previous versions I've heard, including the OBCR have NOT. That was one my biggest head-scratchers with the original show when I saw it. How could they promote that fluffy "nerdy" sound as the "new dance music" (meaning disco)? It was a misfired arrangement. They have (happily) corrected that for the film.
And I never "bought" Audra's "Deena" as a hugely successful '60s-'70s pop diva for one second. I don't care how well she acted the part, her "legit" voice training came through on every note and was ill-suited for the Dreams material.
I was talking about vocal-wize. But, I respect your opinion way to much to attempt to take the argument any farther.
