I almost always buy orchestra seats but am considering 1st row mezzanine for Anything Goes and Follies. Any thoughts? Sat front row mezz at the Lunt for Beauty and the Beast. Great seats, but the mezz there seens exceptionally close to the stage. Unfamiliar with the Marquis and Sondheim.

I sat in the center of the middle of the mezzanine for Anything Goes. I want to say it was row E. It was an absolutely perfect view. I would definetely recommend it for Anything Goes. I didn't feel detached from the action onstage at all. It was an awesome view for the big numbers. A lot of the action tales place on all three levels of the stage, so the mezzanine is definitely an ideal location to get the big picture and takenon all the action.

I'm usually inclined to go mezzanine over orchestra (and, actually, first row mezzanine is always my ideal seat for any show on Broadway). I got student rush for Anything Goes and ended up first row orchestra. It was fun, but I often found myself wishing I were in the mezz because of the dance numbers. Follies would be good from anywhere in that theatre, I assume, but I love the front row mezz of the Marquis. It doesn't feel too close to the stage. So, I would get mezz for both. But that's just me.

I can't think of any theater where the front row of the mezz would be a bad choice. I do not enjoy being more than 2 or 3 rows back in the mezz...because I'm short and find I have to look over too many heads and often don't get a clear view.

Additional note: there dont' seem to be any bad seats at the Sondheim at all. Just saw anything goes from Row M in the orch...absoluttely fab seat. (I'd also seen Birdie from the Mezz....and even off to the side with no problems at all.)

Just saw Follies from row K center orchestra -- great site lines as well.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Mezzanine is perfect for Anything Goes. For Follies i would recommend Orchestra, i have sat in both the mezz and orch and i found it to be more enjoyable from the Orchestra.

The Walter Kerr! I felt like I was going to fall to my death and just looking up at that scary balcony made me sick in the stomach. And I don't have a fear of heights, normally. And those stairs seem to have been made for munchkin size feet.

redmustang, the mezz at the Marquis is fantastic. The first row is about halfway over the orchestra and is a perfect view for the whole stage.

Decided on front row mezz for both shows. Thanks to you all.
