"In announcement news this afternoon, Warner has set A Streeetcar Named Desire: The Original Director's Version for DVD only release on 11/9 (SRP $14.96). This is a movie-only re-issue the original uncensored version, prior to the 1951 Legion of Decency cuts, featuring some 3 minutes of previously unseen footage. It's essentially the same version previously released on DVD by Warner, just without the special edition extras. The Legion of Decency... that sounds like something from a bad spy or superhero movie. "
While I wish this was coming out on Blu Ray with the other version and all the extras I'm really fascinated to see this!
I would have gone with "Brando Uncut" as a headline, but this is still exciting news.

I too am dissapointed there isn't a blu-ray release forthcoming. I'm trying to think of what else there could be to put back in and I can't think of anything. It would have to be something incredibly minuscule wouldn't it?
Big whoop. This is a feature-film-only release that was already released years ago as part of a Special Edition DVD.
Your heading should actually read:
Original Unedited Directors Cut of STREETCAR Coming TO DVD -- AGAIN!
Thanks, Brody. I thought I was having deja vu again.

It was also part of the one of the TCM Greatest Classic Movies packages, which in many cases simply consists of the first disc of the special editions.
So unless the director's cut was on the absent second disc, sounds like I'm good to go too.
so will this have blanche's monologue about her husband being gay? sorry if that's a stupid question haha

Hopefully this also has more of a rape than a shattered mirror.

iirc, the stuff they had to cut out of the play just in writing the screenplay and never filmed, including the gay monologue, is a lot more substantial than the 3 cut out minutes of film that were available to put back in yrs later.
I loathe this movie version, save for Brando. They really bastardized the play. Not a fan of Leigh's over-the-top performance, either.

There also seems to be more than just a hint of a lesbian relationship between Blanche and Stella. I mean, how many "meaningful glances" do the two of them exchange?

Not seeing any incestuous lesbianism going on in this film, Dolly, not even the slightest touch of a whisper of a hint. Can you elaborate on some of those "meaningful glances"?

Many of the scenes that feature Blanche and Stella end eith them holding hands and holding a stare just a few beats longer than needed. Someone told me that it was Kazan's way of proving Blanche and Stella were two sides of the same personality. I don't buy it.
