Another actor checking in. Recent BFA Grad. I am taking this year off from school to recoup money spent during my stay in college. Doing as many paying gigs as possible in my city, which is mostly non paying community theatre, while working for Verizon as a sales rep. Plan on moving out to Chicago next year to do grad work and break into the theatre scene out there.

Just checked this thread...sorry for the late responses! re: Other actors on the board?

Elphaba3 Well, thank you! (I'm blushing...) As for the honesty, I don't know whether or not being in honest in real life actually helps make you a better actor, but I know for a fact that it makes you a better person. And for myself, I know that being honest about my acting (not padding my resume, exaggerating my experience, etc.) has been the best policy. Good luck with everything! =)

Carl Magnum Sounds great! I know lots of people who started in Chicago, and they loved it there. Break a leg! (And don't let the day-job get you down...sounds like you've got a great plan. I only add this 'cause I did retail sales for a while, and I found it difficult sometimes to stay positive when I was getting bombarded by nasty customers all day.) re: Other actors on the board?

As for me, I started rehearsals for Paint Your Wagon last week, and it's going great so far. Having a lot of fun. Although I received a bit of a surprise just before rehearsals started... In addition to the role I was originally cast in (Cherry), I'm also playing one additional role (Sarah) and understudying the leading lady (Lily - played by Sharon Lawrence). But it's cool. I get a solo in the additional role, and the role I'm understudying is right up my alley and only has one song to learn, so it's not much more work. =)

Welcome to the board. I'm an actor, though I haven't been doing anything lately (by choice). I guess I'll have to get myself out there again soon.

Thanks, Matt! Why by choice? Burned out and wanted a break? Or just had other, better things to do? (Writing, perhaps? Starting a family?) Just curious. =)

hi there, trying to get a post your your link is like winning the NY lottery. I am an non eq actor, going to every call out there. I hear "sorry, we went in a different direction" all the time, but sometimes I get to hear we would love you to play..... for us. So it is a happy medium. Congrats on all your success in LA.
I did a production of Paint Your Wagon in a dinner theatre in Fla once. I was julio. Started off just as the U/S, but he left the production, and I got the part. It is really a great old show. Julio is a great part, lots of wonderful singing.
I also played perchik in Fiddler.
Anyway, it is great to meet you and I wish you the best. I hope to see you on the message boards.

Welcome to the boards Erika-

Though I am still a senior in HS I am a working non-equity actor (though I did just do an equity approved show) and i'll be attending College for Musical Theater. Have fun on the boards but don't get hurt.

*EDIT* I forgot to mention that the Children's Theater I work for also has pre-tracked music (It can be a pain)

showinoff Nice to meet you! I actually don't know the original show, as what we're doing is a revival with an entirely new book by David Rambo. But Julio is still a wonderful role, with the best songs in the show, IMHO. =)

jacobtsf Thanks! And yeah, the pre-recorded stuff can be annoying. Kinda glad I'm on a break. re: Other actors on the board?

BlueEyedKate Hey! Cool, you triple-threat, you! (I'm only a 2-and-a-half threat, myself. But I speak a few foreign languages and can sight-sing and play piano, so that makes me, like, 2-and-three-quarters, right?) re: Other actors on the board? And yay for Disney love!

broadwaybound3 Thanks!

Erika! I knew I recognized your name as soon as I saw the thread for the first time today. Thanks for posting the resume. I'm a flex pass holder at WCE and I saw Sunday in the Park with George twice (wonderful wonderful!) and the Bungler when Brian Weir was understudying (I've been a longtime fan/acquaintance of his)--laughed and laughed. You are proof that there is talent in LA equal to the Big Apple. I saw my first Broadway shows there during two trips this year (9 in all, all musicals) and while Broadway may be the best place to see new musical theater, I defy anyone to do a better production of Sunday than you all did at WCE, or others currently playing such as Grand Hotel, Dorian, Most Happy Fella... Looking forward to Floyd Collins at WCE this year. And I'm a new subscriber to the Geffen so I will see you in Paint Your Wagon!!! Anyway, to answer your question, besides being a theater addict all my life, I finally feel comfortable calling myself an actor (and not just someone who dabbles in Community Theater). New show (quite indescribable) opening in Hollywood next week! Link below. Well, I will definitely plan on staying after when you're in a show just to say hi. And isn't it fun to visit Broadway World and meet other people who love the theater as much as we do!!!
Sincerely,
Steven Stanley

Hi there, Erika!

I'm an actress just up the road in Las Vegas! Ok, mostly I'm a stay at home mom, but I do a lot of community theatre. Oh, and I'm a princess for birthday parties. I'm too short to audition to be a princess at DL, otherwise I'd be there!

We go to DL at least 3 times a year and I'm sure I've seen you in Snow White as I've seen it many times! My husband has a real thing for the Evil Queen! We are hoping to go again in December, so I'll be sure to let you know if we come. My four year old daughter has yet to see the show and she's so excited! Keep those apple nachos warm!

We also remember Eden from Groove 66!

Welcome to BWW!

...and your children start to leave you from the moment they are born.

Hi, guys! My computer was in the shop for the past week, but I just got it back, so here I am again! =)

Steven Stanley: Well, hello! And *blush*! Thanks so much for the lovely compliments. We were all very proud of that production of Sunday in the Park... I'm so glad you go to see it! (And The Bungler, too!) Unfortunately, I won't be able to audition for Floyd Collins due to my Paint Your Wagon schedule, but I plan on seeing it for sure! Coincidentally, I just auditioned for the Lincoln Center production of The Light In The Piazza last week. It went really well; Adam Guettel apparently thought I was very talented, etc., but the general consensus was that I was just a bit too mature for the role. Which I understand. I've been acting like a 30-year-old since I was 12, so it's hard for me to come off as a traditional ingenue. But I did get great feedback on my audition, and the casting director told my agent she was very impressed with me, so it was a valuable experience. =) Best of luck with your new show, and please do say hi after the performance when you come to see PYW.

DivaMommy: Hello! Nice to meet you. Sounds like you're having a blast, being a full-time Mom and an actress to boot! Good for you! And I will probably be going back to my Evil Queen duties in February, so maybe I'll see you at D-land sometime!

diva007 Break a leg! =)

Hey, Rana! How the heck are ya? Congrats on your marriage and your move across the pond! (When did you tie the knot? And who did you marry? Actor, singer, business tycoon??)

Well, all the "new" stuff for me is posted at one time or other in this thread, but to be brief: The Disney gig has been great, but I'm currently on a hiatus while I'm doing a brand new revival of Paint Your Wagon at the Geffen Playhouse with Sharon Lawrence. I've been auditioning for some really great things lately and getting great feedback (Broadway stuff, national tours, blah blah blah), and the career's moving ahead at a great pace, so I'm very happy! Also, on a personal note, my husband and I just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary, so life's super cool. And the band's still going strong. We just played a great gig this past Monday night, actually. (Weird night for a gig, but our guitarist is also a pit musician, so it had to be Equity day off.)

As for Eden, I know! It's awesome. The girl has some chops!

Great to hear from you! Hope all is well!

xoxo

My theatre work is strictly front of house (House Management, Bartending) because my day job is very demanding. I enjoyed reading about your band and career. Best of luck, and keep us up to date! :)

What is your day job, may I ask? And might I add that doing front-of-house work is wonderful! That truly shows a love of the theater. =)

I'm a hopefull as well.

However, I'm having some major anxiety about everything and my lack of talent (especially since everyone at my school is amazing!) I need a lot of work.

And as for the Fiddler Support Group:
I've been Chava in a community theatre. I was the only blonde in the cast--and I got picked on. re: Other actors on the board? Updated On: 11/6/04 at 10:57 AM

Welcome to the Fiddler Support Group, LittleFish! re: Other actors on the board?

We just had our final rehearsal before Tech for Paint Your Wagon... I'm excited for us to open, but dreading Tech. I hate Tech. re: Other actors on the board?

I guess that's it... I'll probably post the info for my show in a separate thread. =)

hey erica
i'd like to join the fiddler support group too! I live in Australia and last year i played Fyedka in a production on the sunny Gold Coast. This was a great role because i normally get cast in mainly "pompous ass" singing roles (i'm mainly a singer, but love the acting too). I'm playing Nanki-Poo (yay! not a pompous ass!) in a semi-professional run of The Mikado at the moment...and am loving it to bits...although a month into the run and im getting a bit tired of it. :) Have played Bumble in Oliver!, Audrey II in LSOH, the King in R & H's Cinderella, 1st tenor in Iolanthe and many others...(oklahoma!, king and i etc etc). I am very jealous that you get so many theatrical oppurtunities...in Australia its hard. Unless you're Hugh Jackman it is very difficult to get a break...most actors sell their souls and join trashy soaps like Home and Away and Neighbours. Good luck with everything and i hope you make it to broadway!

paradox_error Hi, there! Well, congrats! you seem to be doing quite a lot, with or without loads of opportunities. And you must have quite a range...you've listed roles from tenor to bass! Wow! Thanks so much for the good wishes, and if I do get to Broadway, I will definitely let you guys know! re: Other actors on the board?
