I’m curious as to why shows don’t invite the New York critics to their respective out of town tryouts. It’s a story time and time again that the local critics will give shows more favorable reviews compared to their New York counterparts. If the purpose of an out of town tryout is to gather audience feedback before jumping to Broadway; why don’t they invite the New York critics for further feedback.

Do you really think shows would want to potentially get stomped on before they even make it to Broadway?

Countless shows with Broadway plans were killed by out-of-town critics and negative word-of-mouth so NY critics don’t bother. Saves everyone a lot of time.

You're absolutely right. I don't mind critics being invited then, but leave "influencers" out of it, unless they pay to go there.
