I would say most definitely "Into the Woods"
it has a nice opening, other than that is horribly boring. The second act is ridiculous. The should just call it Fairy tales meets SAW...
I have see it twice and have wanted to gouge my eyeballs out of my socket.
If its was boiled down to children will listen, the prolouge, and no one is alone now it would be palatable.

Mr Roxy, I agree with you all the way. I didn't much care for Grey Gardens, liked SA, and went along with family to see Mary Poppins not expecting to like it (I'm kind of sick of that "Superc..." song), but was pleasantly surprised.
And I think you're gonna love Curtains. It's the whole package: "eye candy", great performances, choreography, you name it!
re: "Mamma Mia, unless your a 50 year old Abba fan, then it's the best." Well that's describing me, and I just can't help myself.

There's a fairly clinical way to assess the pedigree of musicals, with the exception of modern day long runs.
Which shows have the most revivals, gala one nights and duplicate recordings?
Which shows are leased most to amateur groups?
Which shows have the most references in the press when broadway's landmarks are discussed.
Using that criteria wipes out about 80% of the above titles.
There's a reason that Any One Can Whistle has a concert recording and Tenderloin is a fond memory of theater afficianados.

Phantom of the Opera- Such garbage. Webber is obviously trying to use theme and variation. Only one problem Sir Andrew...EVERY CHARACTER HAS THE SAME THEME. The lyrics are quite trite and predictable, almost too soapy for description. The book, or whatever little there is of it, isn't a memorable one. The only thing saving this schlop is Prince's direction, which is often quite nice.

Rent. I am pretty sure Wicked will become that way eventually too, if it hasn't already.
I saw that and it was really good, but I am sure that it will become overrated. It's like the next RENT.
Oh and Les Miserables. I wasn't too happy when I saw it because I said, "This is what everyone raves about?" The show was good but most certainly not my favorite.

Posted: 3/6/07 at 2:30amA Chorus Line is FAR from overrated, I'd like to see one of you try and make a musical that was formed just by interviewing people and then formed into a show based on REAL emotions....Chorus Line is the TRUE show people should reflect on...

Posted: 3/6/07 at 5:23pmAnything that's popular, whether among regular theatergoers or the rest of the world, people are going to say it's overrated. A better question might be a show that everyone agrees is NOT overrated. I vote Cats.
