I didn't say Chicago was BAD, I said it was OVERRATED. There's a difference. If you noticed, a lot of the musicals I listed as overrated I like. In fact, all of the musicals I listed I like.
"I have a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!"
Okay, first and foremost, the "We Will Never Die" twins: LES MIZ and PHANTOM. If it werent for the flashy stagecraft, neither would have lasted more than a single season. As it is, one is all about the barricade while the other is all about the chandelier.
LION KING. As much as I love the stagecraft, it's all style and no substance. For that matter, just about *everything* out of the Disney factory.
I also have to add The Lion King. Visually, the show is stunning, but it is boring as hell.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
I hate it when people say "O you are just saying _________ is overrated, because alot of people like here like it." Why else would it be over rated if it didn't have fans the bragged about?

If you are saying the current revival of Chicago is overrated, then I agree with you whole-heartedly. If you are referring to the show itself, I echo Mr. Roxy's, you must be kidding.
I agree with calling Grey Gardens overrated. It had potential, but the book doesn't work.
Sunday in the Park with George overrated? What?!

Phantom of the Opera Wicked Rent The Music Man Cats The Lion King Les Miz Pippin Hair Jersey Boys Mamma Mia! Chicago (the recent revival) Cabaret (the recent revival)
Now, I don't think any of these are BAD (exceot for maybe 4 or 5) but I think all of these are extremely overrated.
"I'm tellin' you, the only times I really feel the presence of God are when I'm having sex and during a great Broadway musical." - Nathan Lane - Jeffrey
Wicked, I liked it, but I liked a lot of others more The Producers Mamma Mia The these two I just didn't enjoy. I just didn't "get" them. I don't understand how a Broadway lover could love Mamma Mia. Sorry. *Scared*
Mamma Mia is overrated unless your a 50 year old Abba fan. Then it's absolutely the BEST!
How can you say that without the set and stagging pictures in shows like Phantom and Les Miserables that they would be overrated. The set and stagging is what makes most shows great.
