poor matthew risch!
hes getting slaughtered out there.
This is disappointing. I thought the show was weak, too long, a bit boring, but the talent was fine. Risch works SO HARD but aside from the sweating, I don't think he makes it look hard.

The cad is back: 'Pal Joey' returns to Broadway
by Michael Kuchwara
Risch was elevated to star status after the production's original Joey, Christian Hoff, departed during previews with a foot injury. And the understudy acquits himself well, particularly during choreographer Graciela Daniele's club numbers. A fine dancer, Risch (in the role originated on Broadway in 1940 by Gene Kelly) has a boyish energy, a sexy confidence tinged with more than a little naughtiness. They are qualities just right for attracting the worldly wise, older woman, socialite Vera Simpson, played here by Channing.

Did you write that?
If not, it's plagiarism.
"Plagiarism is the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."
I credited the author and the source.
I believe you're only allowed to post a snippet of reviews, and must provide a link.

Edited it. It's available for free, so who cares?
Either way, it's not plagiarism.
The people who run this site care.
If you copy and paste an entire article without posting a link, this site is responsible for your plagiarism.
ljay is right. You are only legally allowed to paste snippets and must provide a link when referencing an article written by someone else on a different website. Otherwise, it is plagiarism, and the people who run the site are responsible for your negligence.
As I said, you are misusing the term plagiarism. Did you even read my earlier post? Once again:
"Plagiarism is the use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."
I did not engage in plagiarism - I credited both the author and the source.
whether legal or not, websites hold a certain amount of responsibility and so we should follow the rules they set. Another way of looking at it could be that by posting the entire review, you take away the incentive to go to the real source.
You're absolutely right - it's not plagiarism. It might be copyright infringement, but it's not plagiarism.

why "poor matthew risch"? no one made him take the role, they offered and he accepted. He deserves whatever reviews he gets.
I don't understand why its "poor" new guy.
He could have easily said, "i dont think i am ready for this yet and I would like to stay in the chorus and understudy so i can get my acting skills more polished so when i do become a leading man, I will be ready for the harsh NY critics". But he didn't. You have to be ready for the feast or famine.

I never commented on the legality. But since it was an AP review, you're not going to the "real source." It will be available at many, many sites, so I didn't see the need to link to one particular site that happens to carry it.

You underestimate how many people on this board are dumb enough to think just because you posted something that you must've written it.
CITE STUFF.
OKAY?
OKAY.
thank you. goodnight. bye bye.
Yah. Just follow the house rules, nuff said. You forgot to mention the most important part, that AP IS POSITIVE! :)
If anyone needs help with citations, they should visit Purdue's OWL (online writing lab). It features wonderful tips on correct MLA format.
I <3 AP English. Lots.

This was the cite in my original post. Was it not clear?

Mark,
It doesn't matter if you're innocent or guilty of any crimes or misdemeanors or how many posters here decide to jump on you - ANY way you look at it you're still in better shape than PAL JOEY.

Variety is positive.
I saw Matthew's first night and loved the show and thought he did well. I can only guess that he's even better now.
Risch was charmless in the role. While I wish him well with future projects, he deserves some of these mixed reviews.
And let's leave poor mark alone for now. Wrong or right he has heard enough.

I saw it last week and he was pretty awful. After his first song, "Chicago," I thought: this will be a long show. I mean, the songs not even hard to sing, but he was having trouble just hitting the notes and the melody.

"Run, don't walk, to see Matthew Risch," began an email I received from a friend at tonight's performance about 20 minutes ago, "because he'll probably never work again."
The whole thing was terrible. He was, Channing was, the sets were, the cosutmes were mediocre for William Ivey Long, the orchestrations were disgusting, the direciton was bad, the dances were pedestrian. Oh, and the new book...how do they say it nowadays?...sucked.
The Roundabout should be ashamed of themselves. Richard Rodgers is rolling in his grave. Larry Hart is probably too busy writing misaccented lyrics and drinking scotch, but I hope he is too.
