i just got this CD and it is SO amazing! Did anyone see the show at Lincoln Center? Jason at his finest. this is too good to be true, i can't stop listening! WOWWW
"Parade" is a masterpiece. I saw it twice at Lincoln Center. I recently met Carolee Carmello for the first time, and all I could talk about was this show. God, I love it!
I saw the national tour and it was brilliant. I wish I could see it again. The staging was excellent and the cast performed beautifully. I liked the voice of the touring Leo much better than Brent Carver and his performance was perfect. I've seen him on a couple of episodes of Law and Order, but I'd love to see more of him. Very talented man.

I saw it at Lincoln Center. I thought the music was good, but the show didn't astound me.
I don't believe it was well staged. For example, in the courtroom scenes, the jury was a cardboard cutout. (Yeah, I know what Prince was going for, but none of the rest of the show followed through in that style).
I didn't like Carolee Carmello in this role (I'm the only one, I know). I don't think she played the emotional distance the character feels very well. She reminded me of Miss Jane Hathaway from the Beverly Hillbillies. I kept expecting her to say "Right Chief". I think the problem was that we never saw her connect emotionally with anyone or anything and she came across to the audience as unfeeling.
As much as I loved Ms. Carmello in the role, that was pretty dern funny, Goth.
I agree a bit about the staging. There was quite a bit of the courtroom scene that I did enjoy ("He Called My Name/Come Up to My Office"), but that parade in the beginning left a lot to be desired.
And when the angry Southerners came out on stage with those torches, I was wondering if it was 1979 and I was watching the end of the first act of EVITA.
But overall, I adored the show.
I hope that down the road (maybe 10 or 15 years from now) there will be a revival.
NYU is doing a production of PARADE sometime soon isn't it?? Or is this the one you're talking about..... :)

I don't know who was running the conveyor belt the night I saw it, but I remember thinking "It must be a senior citizen parade, because they are moving so slowly."
I'd like to see a revival with a few minor changes.
NYU is doing a production next month, if I remember correctly. It should be good. I was going to get tickets, but completely forgot. It's probably all sold-out by now. Too bad for me.
Thanks! I wanted to get tickets.... oh well. They guy who's playing governor slaton graduated from my high school.
I don't know if it is sold-out or not; that is just my guess. You should definitely check it out if you want to see the show.
ITS SUCH AN AMAZING SHOW ITS ONE OF THE BEST SCORES I'VE EVER HEARD I LOVE IT!!!
Parade is a masterpiece.
I believe the "cardboard" jury was supposed to represent the one-sided-ness of the jury. They were there but only to be seen, not to listen (to Leo).
Bring on the revival!!!

Yes you are right. My gripe is that the jury was the only time that Prince used that style of presentation. If he wanted to use representation for reality, there were other places he should have done it to remain consistent.
NYU is doing it this weekend, actually...It's the musical theatre students from the Steinhardt School of Education, not the performance majors from Tisch. Not sure about ticket availablility but I'm sure there aren't many available.

My favorite cast recording ever, unfortunately I have only seen one crappy community theatre performance of it.
