Liesl Tommy’s Electric New Revival Playing MAY 20 - JUN 29, 2025
A young musician sets out on an electrifying musical odyssey to find himself and his place in the world, swapping his middle-class LA upbringing for punk rock and protest in 1980s Amsterdam and Berlin in Passing Strange. Tony Award-nominated director Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed on Broadway, the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect) brings her acclaimed revival of the rock musical from London’s Young Vic Theatre to the A.R.T.
Hailed as an “all-out wild ride” (The Guardian), Passing Strange features music by Stew Stewart and Heidi Rodewald, with book and lyrics by Stew, a Tony Award- and two-time Obie Award-winning playwright, performer, and Harvard professor, in collaboration with Annie Dorsen.

Great to hear! I had front row Tix for this on Bway, and then it closed a week or two before we were scheduled. One of my big regrets!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
