Posted: 4/23/09 at 10:58amI know there was talk (I believe the director even metioned it in an interview) that is concert version would be coming out on DVD. Is there any news of this still happen? Thanks

Posted: 4/23/09 at 11:06amYikes. I sort of hope not. There were SO many other PBS broadcasts that are far more worthy of DVD issue than that mess.

Posted: 4/23/09 at 11:07amI assume you're asking about the version with Gabriel Byrne. Considering the scathing reviews he got and the less-than-overpowering reviews for the rest of the show (with the exception of Nathan Gunn), I'd be inclined to doubt it. It's a shame, because Byrne is a superlative actor who simply wasn't right for Arthur.

Posted: 4/23/09 at 12:10pmthank god I didn't buy a ticket for it. It was horrible. Happily , Bobby Steggert can sleep easy knowing he'll never be costumed any worse than CAMELOT.

Posted: 4/23/09 at 3:01pmIt was horrid. I'm sure everyone involved just wants to forget about it. If it was released on DVD it would have to be massively edited to try and improve several actor's timing and Gabriel Byrne would have to completely re-record all of his songs to make it appear as though he was able to sing on time with the orchestra. It's money that no one wants to spend.

Posted: 4/23/09 at 4:18pmWow. I cannot believe everybody disliked this. I am no expert on the show and was a "Camelot" virgin until I viewed this live on PBS, but I thought the show was very well done and quite enjoyable. Byrne, in particular, made me a fan for life, and I had previously been unacquainted with his work. Maybe I would feel differently about the overall quality of this one if I had seen previous productions.

They are still trying to release it. It was originally set for the Fall but I think it was postponed for a little while. Lonny had said that it would definitely be out by next summer.

Mr. Roxy, you burned it to DVD. Now burn it.
Seriously though, you might want to watch it, as it is fascinatingly, incomprehensibly bad.

Posted: 4/24/09 at 12:45pmI put burned on DVD too as I watched it. At the end of the show, I took it out of the dvd player and threw it away. I couldn't imagine sitting through any part of that mess again.

Posted: 4/24/09 at 12:55pmI don't know why this would go to DVD. Its typical audience knows it was poorly received, and there are no names big enough to boost sales to others. And it was truly painful to watch.
