"Chicago didn't have the best singers either, but at least they didn't bastardize the whole story."
They didn't bastardize the story in POTO. I think it is one of the most faithful stage to screen transfer. It also added a lot from the novel by Leurox.

"Patrick Wilson I thought was a good actor, esp. when he played "older" Raoul. Not the best singer in the world, and what was up with his hair????"
Patrick Wilson is from Broadway. So, what is your point? I am commenting about WB putting in people from Broadway. Oh yeah! ALW is the one that put the majority of money into this. Not WB.
A few Golden Globes might help it but the lack of any stars will hurt it. If it makes its money back (with oveseas & video) it will probably be very lucky
I will get the DVD when it comes out as we found it very enjoyable
I am getting tired of hearing about "I wish it had big name stars in it." Why must we always have movies with Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, etc. Do you remember when movies starred folks that NO ONE had heard of and those movies are now classics? Also, old movie musicals starred people that no one heard of (Gene Kelly) and then he was sky rocketed into stardom. Big names does not always equal great talent. <---this wasn't directed to just one person but in general.
oh come on.. theres already someone shooting down the movie?Personally I thought it was awsome. When I went to try to see it again last sunday, it was sold out!!
I've heard bad reviews of Gerard before the movie came out and and I thought he was fantastic.
Just think, if all the people who have seen the show worldwide just go once to see the move it would be a major hit. The full release will tell us, but for now it's too early to call it a flop IMO.
IMO too
well, let's all pray that when they get to jekyll & hyde they try to cast actors who can sing as well
This thread was started to stir bad publicity by someone who did not like the movie and would find joy in seeing it flop.
hurumph the last thing I want is to see it flop
I loved it!
To OperaDiva
Regretfully, I doubt J/H will ever reach the silver screen so who is cast is a moot point

Or it could have been started by someone who takes the pleasure in someone else pain. You know, like someone that would keep making jokes about a performers injury. But BronxBoundExpress, we don't know anyone like that, do we?

I don't think that the film will flop. It's in the Top 10 with only 622 locations, and the soundtrack is at number one on the Billboard chart for Soundtracks or some other list. It was reported before. Plus there is Oscar buzz going around... so who knows.
let's see, at $16m it's already made back 20% of an $80m (estimated high) budget and it's yet to go into wide release. let's follow our history, shall we?
heaven's gate, 1980, made back 9.5% of its $40m budget
inchon, 1982, made back 11.3% of its $46m budget
shanghai surprise, 1986, made back 13.5% of its $17m budget
cutthroat island, 1995, made back 10.2% of its $98m budget
town & country, 2001, made back 9.8% of its $105m budget
Plain and simple - the movie sucks. Gerard sucks. Emmy sucks (she's too nasal, and in no way operatic), the fact that he has a horse living in the sewers sucks, the monkey sucks, the chandelier sucks, the MUSIC sucks, the make-up sucks, the direction sucks, the fact that I walked out of a sucky movie (Darkness) to see another sucky movie sucks. So, it all just sucks.
Gee, Justice... did you have a few problems with this film?
But our opinion of the film is not the issue. Some analyist made a prediction that the show would flop. Evidence is to the contrary. It would seem that said analyist was a bit premature in his prediction.
Papalovesmambo... Do you mean "Ishtar" instead of "Inchon"?
Amen, kec.
no, kec, i don't.
ishtar actually made back 26% of its budget which would currently put it ahead of poto.
But guys, the movie is playing not only in the states, but in other countries as well!!!!!
It's not doing particularly well in other countries, either. The poor box-office reception in the UK does not bode well.
Plus there is Oscar buzz going around... so who knows.
What Oscar buzz? The only buzz around this movie is that of flies around this steaming pile of sh*t.
Seriously, this is one of the worst-reviewed movies of the year. The Hollywood Foreign Press jumped the gun on this one in their Golden Globe nominations -- most of them probably didn't even see the movie but thought it might warrant a nod because it's a musical. I'm sure they regret it now that the critics have spoken.
Aw, see I don't really pay attention to what critics say, I like to have my own poinions not influenced by what some stranger says is good and what isn't.
I personally loved the movie, and I know lots of people who did too. I know most people have a problem with it, but really, the BIGGEST cinematic flop?
i seriously hope POTO does not flop....a better movie musical HAS to be made.
i've sat back long enough. you people are nuts. heaven forbid it's not number 1 while in limited release. gimme a break. i know so many people who said they LOVE it and have seen it multiple times. when i was at work today... media play for those of you who know it (the biggest store in the branch actually) 1 of my co workers suggested putting the soundtrack on the loudspeakers around the books section of the store. however, we couldn't because we only had 2 copies left. its flying off the shelves and there are special orders going in for it. people are loving this movie. who cares if critics didn't. i don't care if anyone here doesnt either. we're all entitled to our own opinions. but if you want to comment on how the movie is doing, atleast wait a few weeks into its WIDE RELEASE opening when more people have the chance to see it.
**Standing ovation for Zepka** WOOT WOOT WOOT!!!!!!!!!
spreadin' the love.
I can't thank you enough zepka!
just had to speak my mind... as soon as i heard about that at work today i thought, "ha! those bwwers are gonna love this!"
