I also work in a music store on the very opposite side of the country than my dear friend Zepka. We could not keep the phantom soundtrack in stock. People were always coming in asking for it and I had to keep telling them that we were sold out.
Think about some of the real movie flops that were out there.... No Way does Phantom even come close to them.

Good grief! Those numbers are ridiculous. Just look at the number of theatres running "Phantom" right now compared with all the rest of those films around it. It's incredible that it's drawing the numbers that it is.
This thread shouldn't even be here.

Posted: 1/10/05 at 9:20pmI wouldn't call it a flop considering it hasn't even been fully released yet. I have seen the movie twice already and plan to return again with several friends. I also bought the special edition soundtrack. I am not saying this makes a difference, but I do believe the movie deserves recognition as a very entertaining work.

I agree with everyone who has said that POTO is not a film flop, and I happened to LOVE the film version.
Also, you have to look at the cast. Outside of Minnie Driver, there is no one big "name." Not many people are going to see a movie with leads they've never heard of. (And that's going to be a huge problem whenever Rent comes to theaters)
However, the fact that the film is in the Top 10...plus, you need to account for the overseas numbers.

May I offer a nonmusical related, but still sorta along what I wanted to say here? Right-
I used to work in a movie theater, and during that time, we were scheduled to get "Looney Tunes- Back In Action." Since we were locally renowned for being a very family friendly theater, the lowly, underpaid employees thought this we could- more kids meant more revenue at the snack counter meaning possible pay raises.
Two weeks prior to the Looney Tunes opening, the posters and stands for it were replaced by ones for "The Last Samurai." We were told that our theater had switched films with a larger theater down the road- one that was already getting big box office draws (ie LOTR, The Matrix, etc.). Our holiday season was only saved by the fact that we had Elf, but it still hurt us a bit.
Now, why did we get "Last Samurai?" Our head manager believed that Tom Cruise was a bigger draw than a bunch of cartoon characters. ANd, while he's right, and both films did okay at the box office, we didn't get many people to see the film after it's release.

I don't get it LOL But Looney Tunes was a minor flop and Samurai a minor hit, no?

Back to POTO (which I LOVED)
The SAG Awards were announced it didn't get any nominations.
Golden Globes are this Sunday and Emmy, the picture, and the new song are all nominated.
Keep your fingers crossed. I'm just said that no one is recognizing Patrick's performance...

For a film that's a 'flop', the soundtrack is doing great.
At HitsDailyDouble, with almost 35% of sales venues reporting in, the POTO soundtrack is currently in the #10 position on the chart.
I loved this delicious eye-bonbon of a movie.
