I have no hopes that Piazza will win best musical...but it has the chance to win many other awards so I'm satisfied :0)

i have hopes, just not the highest ones. Lots of people speculate that out of town voters will more likely pick Spamalot-- or even DRS since Spamalot could be an easy sell on its Monty Python name alone- not really "needing" the Tony to be successful when playing a tour. Spelling Bee might suffer from comparisons to Avenue Q- since voters who were asked to vote their heart really voted their wallet expecting a tour that was never gonna happen- they might be leery of voting for the little guy this year. But occassionally 'the artsy show' wins too. The vote could really be split and go any way. I could see any of them winning. If the mentality of voters right now is of the 'send a message to jukebox musicals' variety, i could see them awarding the show that is most daring. i definitely expect Piazza to win a few awards, possibly the most-- orchestrations, score, lighting, best actress...

It probably won't be getting Best Musical (though it would get my vote, if I had a ballot), it's likely to pick up score, orchestrations, lighting, set, and best actress. It also has a chance to upset in a couple of other categories. Don't be surprised if, even if it doesn't win Best Musical, it ends up with the highest awards total on Tony night. That would be quite an accomplishment, given the highly commercial nature of these awards.
Yes, I see Piazza winning the most awards of the night, even with Spamalot's highest number of nominations. I think I would vote Piazza if I were a voter (still haven't seen Spamalot, but have seen the other three). If it wins those five, I'll be satisfied. I will be very happy if it wins more than those also.

Yeah, I have a feeling that even though Piazza probably won't win Best Musical that it will be the big winner of the night.
I think Kelli will get one. I have a feeling DRS will win (deservedly so), and I put Bee on the bottom of the group. Have seen all 4 as of last night (finally).
I wish that PIAZZA would take Best Musical, but unfortunatly it won't. It should take best score, set, lighting, and actress, and in a perfect world featured actor and actress. I hope this show doesn't turn into another Caroline or Change (which still should've won best score/lyrics, and best actress).
I think it's pretty unfortunate BWW can't vote, I think many awards would be given to quality recipients.
That said, I think we're way off in terms of what the Tony voters are thinking for best musical. I am guessing, if they released vote tallies, it'd be:
Spamalot
Bee
DRS
Piazza
I would give it:
Piazza
Bee
DRS
Spamalot
Were I allowed to rank it.

Seeing the show again today. Saw it originally in its first week of previews so I'm very excited to see the changes.
I saw the show on Satuday and it was truly a beautiful show. I was really most surprised at Matt Morrison's performance. Real depth to it, not sure why I was surprised.
Mandy Patinkin was in the audience which was kinda fun to see.
My only complaint - from where I was sitting, I couldn't get a view of Matt's chest! I only saw his bare back. I will have to go back!
After seeing Bee last night I def would put it on the bottom. No waay is it better than the others, and I'd put some non-nominated shows over Bee. It's cute, but that's about it. It's not Ave Q.
agreed of what it will, actress, orchestration, lighting and more.
its a lovely piece of work and should run for a year so everyone gets to see a real jewel on broadway.
I think it is the best Musical of the year, but I agree, it doesn't stand a chance. It has no touring potential and it is a art piece with a limited run. It'd get my vote though. The best thing on Broadway.
I LOVE Piazza more than I can say. But I am not getting my hopes up high for it to win.
PIAZZA is the best musical of the year, but it won't win. SPAMALOT is the front-runner; SPELLING BEE is the dark horse. However, we can all be happy when PIAZZA picks up Best Actress and Best Score, among others.
I think Ramirez will win over O'Hara, although Jan Maxwell could triumph over both of them. I would give it to Kelli too, though.

I just bought the cd 2 days ago and I want my money back. I was not touched an inch from listening to this music. Spelling Bee would probbaly have more of an effect on me. I was pretty much yawning through the whole thing. I don't have one memorable song from the show
Hmm...memorable songs...
Maybe Dividing Day. Or Say it Somehow. How about The Light in the Piazza? Possibly Clara's Tirade? Love to Me? Fable?
Alright, well, I guess you're right. Nevermind.

If you can listen to "Dividing Day", "Fable", or "Say it Somehow" without even getting the tiniest lump in your throat, you have got to be heartless.

The score is beautiful.
There are many memorable song from Piazza. Yeah, what everyone else said.
I wouldn't put Spelling Bee on the bottom. I enjoyed it more than Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which I just saw last night. For me, it's Piazza, Bee, then DRS.

I have not seen this show but I do not like it.
While part of me says "Have you no heart? No soul? How can you not adore this score!", the other part says "Well hell, I don't like Sunday In the Park With George" -- to each his/her own
