Marius' mother is dead, Taz, how cruel of you.

But to answer the question, Eponine is running around with these con letters her father writes to get money out of rich people and drops them. Marius picks them up. She just kind of barges into his room (they live in the same tenement) and he gives her back the letters.

Taz, in the version of the screenplay that was briefly online last year, there was actually a moment after Eponine's death where Gavroche says, "That's my sister."
