Well we know she is doing it
But only from word of mouth in an out of town paper.
Who else has been cast and signed?

I'm pretty sure Colm Wilkinson is supposed to be playing her father. But I have no idea if that's been officially confirmed or not.
ETA: I'ts been confirmed. https://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=3913

What is this show about, and who wrote it?
I know nothing about it.
#9re: PIRATE QUEEN CASTING
Posted: 3/13/06 at 2:33amIt's about the Irish female pirate, Grace O'Malley and it's written by Boubil and Schonberg

No the logo is not for the show. It's just a random image I found. I like it too, thanks!
enjolras - that link starts off with "The Chicago Sun Times reports that..."
I appreciate you digging up the articles, but I think Curtain's question is why did the Chicago Sun Times report it before the producers made an official announcement.
Maybe the writer of the article can answer that question.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 2:35amJeff McCarthy (SideShow, Urinetown, The Opposite Of Sex) has been signed to it, according to one of his co-stars from The Opposite Of Sex (Ian Scott McGregor, whom I just worked with on a show). Don't know what role, though.

Posted: 3/13/06 at 2:49amOh! Ok, sorry, I misunderstood their question. And I didn't evn read the article, I just clicked on the first link that came up. I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed though, right?

Enjolras- Yes, she is confirmed.
According to the Chicago paper, "Managers for Block confirmed Monday that a deal has been inked. Producers are expected to announce the full cast in the coming weeks."
Maybe the producers are just waiting to announce the whole cast at once before making thier official announcement.
munkustrap - No, it's a completely new show. SOOOOO exciting! :)

I am looking forward to this show, as I am fan of Boublil and Schonberg ( Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre). I am a little surprised that the show is opening in America instead of Dublin ( and then London, where the composers' first 3 major musicals were originated... before going to Broadway), from what I had originally read about the show.
But as I am also a great fan of Stephanie Block, I am certainly not complaining
Is it too early to talk about a possible TONY award-winning role

As the subject is about the legendary Irish female sea privateer, Grace O'Malley - it does seem logical to expect to see some form of Celtic dancing in the show

Posted: 3/13/06 at 8:21amThe question is not that Steph is confirmed but what row Popular will be in on opening night!

Hey Urban, do you Aussie's use the term "cheeky monkey!"?
Opening night is a bit of an ambitious goal if you're not somehow connected, but I'll do my best to not disappoint.
Would Orchestra center sometime before it closes be OK with everyone?

Posted: 3/13/06 at 11:01amI don't wish this show any ill-will, and I am glad the talented Block is getting a lead role but-this looks like a disaster waiting to happen. I cannot see NYC tourists flocking to a show about Pirates. And I know, they flocked to a show about French peasants. But I just think it is a different climate for these type of musicals. Maybe it can latch onto the Disney Pirates craziness, but I'm not so sure...

I do love to tease ya Popular, you know (I hope anyway!) it is all in good humour and that I think your support of such a talented and wonderful actress is awesome!
Yeah, I know what a cheeky monkey is (that term is so cute!) and I eagerly look forward to any reports you do on the show!

BobbyBuddy~
What's not to like about an Irish Pirate. For one thing women will love the independent spirit, of their sex, during that period of time. Secondly...there are a lot of Irish Folks who love their heritage and will want to see history brought to the stage...Just look how St. Patrick's Day is celebrated. I'm sure the music will be mesmerizing, plus the added choreography of Riverdance. All this can only make the new musical more exciting. Just think of it in those terms and perhaps you may have a change of heart. (This all said in kindness and a loving spirit)
