For all the naysayers about the future of this show, I am glad to say that the word (which is from "on high") is that the show won't close anytime soon. Suffice it to say that the producers have the financial bases covered, as an agreement has been reached between them and the theatre, finalized yesterday.
However, judging from the size of the audience tonight and this afternoon those measures will rarely if ever need to be utilized. The show was almost full tonight and got a rousing standing ovation.
And for the fans on this board who like the show~keeping telling your family and friends to see it. It has gotten much better, even since opening night.
Bravo, Pirate Queen!~

Although the fact that all these people are employed is wonderful and nothing can take away from that. However, the show needs another doctor to help is pull together. all the elements are there great singing, great orchestra, great lighting, great costumes, but direction that makes me cringe. nothing comes together, its what i call a spit ball show. meaning, you never know how big the spit ball will be or where it will land, but you know its gonna be some kinda mess.
please get a director.
congrats to all the company because their energy was what really made the show work for me.

Good to hear.
I also heard a rumor that the Producers are lining up another Theatre if they have to move in the Fall.
And they might really buy this one.

Theatredude, then why did you bother to post a message about it if "no one really cares"? You cared enough to click on the post. Why waste your time and energy?
I'm sure that your negativity could be utilized someplace else. Stop being such a bitch.
Purge whatever frustrations you have elsewhere and try being supportive instead a of real dick.

Wonderful wizard, there is no reason why you should trust me. I am only involved with the production and don't print rumors on this board.
We should consider it good news that another Broadway Musical is going to stay open!

umm shut up.
if your involved with the production then I would think you should keep your mouth shut. sometimes info like this is not supposed to be released.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with a little leakage...
it keeps the crowds guessing.
The general audiences are enjoying the QUEEN
Critics be damned.

Posted: 5/6/07 at 1:04amI think Wedding Singer had similar gross percentage and still closed within a year.

The Wedding Singer (during the best weeks of it's run) made somewhat less than this.
Though honestly, I can't see this musical lasting too long.

Sorry Off-Topic....
Didn't Wedding Singer recently announce a tour?

Just because the theatre was full doesn't mean they are making money. Considering they are offering $35.00 for all performances excluding Saturdays for any seat for the next two months is not a sign that they are raking it in.
And Curtianpulldowner, are you saying they are considering BUYING a theatre to house this show if they have to leave the Hilton? I find that very hard to believe.

"The show was almost full tonight and got a rousing standing ovation."
Tonight is also Saturday evening, when most people go see shows (hence why discounts don't usually work Saturday evenings). Just saying...it's not really a great predictor of how the show is doing.

SueleenGay - Are you not aware the producers originally wished to buy the Hilton? I wouldn't put it past them to be considering that.
Though stephen3's post has no real credibility, it gives me moral security that it won't close by the end of the month, which is when I have tickets to see it.

"We should consider it good news that another Broadway Musical is going to stay open! "
I disagree with this completley. We should not be happy that no matter how bad a show is, that it is staying on broadway. Thats just silly. Why consider it good news that an extremley flawed show is staying on broadway. Basically you are saying that no matter how horrible a show is, if it stays on broadway, we should be happy. Thats just not right.

I quite agree. If every house was filled with a Disney musical, I'm sure the "oh well it's giving work to lots of actors" argument would not get wheeled out. Broadway is the place for excellence- in all departments. This show has serious flaws.
Just think if a newcomer saw the show and decided, because it was so dull, never to go to the theatre again.

According to the information available right here on this site, it's playing to 75% capacity this week, a drop of 4% from the week before. The prducers must have really deep pockets to keep this open in the face of such lackluster sales -- even with the discounted seats.
But hey, "if it'll save the life of one child..."

Lots of shows had declines in their grosses last week. What I'm waiting to see is how Pirate Queen does once the summer tourist season gets underway.
My impression has long been that Doherty and McColgan are looking at Pirate Queen as a long term project, another Riverdance. They are planning on mounting international tours and sit-down productions, and want to use Broadway as a launching pad. They couldn't care less if they are making their weekly nut with a 75% gross, that's not what their goal is.

Posted: 5/6/07 at 8:14amIt's great when producers love a show enough to keep it open despite losses. But remember, they're producers. And once a show starts to lose $100,000 week after week, with no end in sight, they tend to get pragmatic.

$100,000 to these producers is like 25 bucks to you and I.
They have billions, so it makes no difference.
and they need to keep it on broadway as long as they can so when they do mount their international tours, they can use the "broadway" logo to sell it even better.
thats all they care about. ah the almighty dollar.
